I have been going to Dr. Byun for a year. He is the best dentist that I have ever had. I travel in 1 hr from NJ to go to him and he’s worth it. He saw a cavity forming in my teeth and instead of charging me to have it drilled, he recommended rinsing with Listerine Total Care Zero as it had been proven to reduce the size of the cavity. I rinsed for 6 months the way Dr. Byun said to and there is x-ray proof that it is getting smaller and doesn’t need to be drilled. He was looking out for my medical best interest and not trying to fill his pocket. He has the latest technology and was able to take a picture of my back molars and email it to me. He said that my molars were almost worn down from teeth grinding on my first visit and I would need a mouth guard at night. My previous dentist never told me this, nor about the Listerine. I am a person who researches everything a medical professional says and the picture was in my email before I left the building! I compared the picture with pictures that came up on reputable dental sites (ADA) that came up in google and Dr. Byun was right! He caught it early before it caused me any pain. My previous dentist (of 10 years!) put the incorrect type of filling (amalgam) on my front teeth, Dr. Byun saw this, explained it to me (I verified it with the ADA, of course) and said that they would need to be replaced, but not right away, but he would keep an eye on it. I found Dr. Byun because two of my cousins started going there and were very happy. Upon seeing his name, I was concerned that he would have an accent and we would have communication issues, but he does not have an accent. He takes the time to explain with laymen’s terms and uses visual aids (even using the monitor and drawing on it to highlight an area of my mouth) so I understand what is happening and I have never felt rushed. His office responds to emails in a timely fashion - I prefer to book appointments via email or on Zocdoc and this is not a problem for them. The hygienist is also excellent, she answers any questions I have and my teeth are clean afterward (without any pain from her poking me by mistake). I had no idea my previous dentist was so behind on his professional development, that man had recommended electric toothbrushes to me while it was clear that he being paid by the company (not what Dr. Byun recommends). Dr. Byun recommends the Sonicare to all of his patients and does not have any “swag” in the office from the company. Since brushing with the Sonicare, I don’t have any cavities (except for that one I mentioned that is disappearing) where I had 6 within the previous year from my previous dentist. I had my records sent to Dr. Byun and he verified that there were indeed cavities that my previous dentist filled; I started to suspect something was up. I have also been seen on time-or early (sometimes my train gets in 15 min early) if they’re available, I have never had to wait past my appointment time. Bottom line, go to Dr. Byun, you will be taken care of and his main priority is your health and well-being, not his practice’s bank account.
