Choosing a psychiatrist is one of the most difficult decisions you will ever have to make. At the very time you need to be aware and knowledgeable, you may be dealing with such symptoms as preoccupation, and difficulty with sleep and mood. This decision is understandably difficult. This is, after all, about entrusting one's most complex and personal parts of you to another person.
I specialize in developing the tools one needs to master the developmental difficulties that have interfered with your emotional comfort, strength and resilience. The ensuing process is based upon a successful partnership; together we build emotional understanding tailored specifically to the individual. In my practice I utilize psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and appropriate medication to optimally help my patients.
I trained to be a physician at the University of Maryland, and participated in research in diabetes;at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center I assisted in developing the ways to assess Project Head Start. After specialty training in psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco, I went on to receive Board Certification in Psychoanalysis from the American Board of Psychoanalysis and the International Board of Psychoanalysis.

My visit with Dr. Hoffman always leaves me with a comfort and understanding that I consider priceless.
He was very knowlegable and caring and it was easy to schedule follow up appointments. The one issue I had with my visit was feeling like he wasn't fully listening to me because I had to say a few things several times before he acknowledged what I had said.
