Patient Reviews for Dr. Ashesh Patel - MD
sketchy.
Dr. Patel is great. His staff is touchy. The receptionist did not listen to me when I tried to tell her I needed four scripts. She cut me off and snapped "I've got it!" then silently handed me a single script. I then told her it should be four scripts, she blamed me and said "You said you only wanted one." I told her I tried to tell her but she did not allow me to even say anything. She then politely wrote the other three scripts but could have saved herself some trouble by not being so rude.
Mostly seen by a GW MD student rather than Dr. Patel himself -- which was fine, he was outstanding.
Nice and knowledgable. Medical interns are always friendly. Office staff is selectively friendly and can act as if you're wasting their time. Good help is hard to find in D.C. apparently.
I'm accustomed to have RNs or PAs make the initial assessment before the doctor sees me, but this time I was examined by a 4th year medical student. I thought that was very unprofessional for a patient's first visit for an illness (if it were a routine physical, then it wouldn't be so bad). Once Dr. Patel came at the end of the visit, he seemed very jumpy/nervous and didn't seem to have taken time to learn about the reason for my visit. I came in for a fairly simple condition that would have been best served by immediate treatment, but he said he would wait until later in the week to call in a routine prescription after getting lab results back for a chronic condition unrelated and unaffected by bloodwork. He was not thorough and his process doesn't make much sense.
One of the best doctors I've been in a long time. Highly recommended.
First time patient. Filled out forms ahead of time -- got to the appointment 10 minutes before it started and I was seen nearly right away. Medical student did the exam and Dr. Patel came in later to check in and offer an opinion. Dr. Patel was quick and to the point and seemed knowledgeable. Overall, I was very pleased -- the blood work person could have used a attitude boost but this was the only demerit I could give the entire operation. Pleased -- and I will return in the future.
Dr Petel is the best!
I like Dr Patel but he needs to make major changes to scheduling. A patient should not have to wait more than 15 minutes. This is DC, people have places to be.
Professional, nice, and willing to explain everything.
This morning was my first appointment with Dr. Patel. He and his staff were professional, courteous, and patient. Super convenient location 1 block from the subway, too! I'll definitely go back.
Everyone was so kind, courteous and helpful.
Very friendly front office staff. Obviously quite busy, but attentive and receptive nonetheless. Quite pleasant. Dr Patel was quite friendly, extremely efficient, and informative. He took the time to answer my questions thoroughly and had me in and out in a flash, script and referral in hand.
Dr. Patel is the best doctor out there. He is responsive, patient and very thorough. I have been his patient for almost 2 years now and haven't had a single complaint. His staff is wonderful too.
Very quick and easy. The staff are friendly and gave me my referral information immediately.
There was no wait-time at all. Initially, his medical assistant took my vitals and inquired into the reason for my visit and any medical problems or concerns I had. Then Dr. Patel saw me and gave me the results of my tests, prescribed some medication and told me what to watch out for and what to avoid in my diet. Both Dr. Patel and his assistant were very pleasant. Dr. Patel didn't waste any time, but at the same time he answered all my questions. I was out of his office in no time.
THE worst experience EVER! I went in for an "annual physical", and received absolutely NOTHING! I was there for 10 minutes! The doctor didn't even introduce himself, went right into asking me about my family history and spoke extremely low but at the same time extremely fast! I had to ask him several times to raise his voice and speak slower! I told him three times that I was in for an annual physical, but instead he nothing! I had to ask to be weighed! Usually this is done by the medical assistant! I asked for. Blood work to be done to check normal "annual" things, but instead he said I had to reschedule and make a morning appointment and not eat anything! I mean like seriously, I clearly told the front desk I was there for an annual physical so they could've told me to schedule in the morning so that I wouldn't have to waste my time and leave work for no reason! 10 minutes later, as I'm leaving the doctor asks me to inform the front desk that I need a referral to see a neurologist. The front desk lady looks at me and yells to another lady and tells her that she has a patient. This lady tells me that I don't need a referral and to "just" call the number and I informed her that she needed to ask the doctor because he said I needed a referral! She responded back with a rude "excuse me"! This was a first and last for me!!! As a cherry on top, the d
Completely unreachable after your appointment.
Dr P. is a great MD, very helpful and nice service, I'd recommend him to anyone after a good MD he's local to Dupont Circle
Dr. Patel is very thorough and really sweet. His social awkwardness is rather endearing, although others may find it prohibitive in a doctor-patient relationship. It worked for me.
Simply the Best!!!
Doctor Patel seems highly competent but he is a little brusque and way too soft-spoken to be heard clearly by patients.
the Doctor said he will call the pharmacy for my prescripition, one week past he didn't call.
Dr Patel had all the qualities I was looking for in a general practitioner: close, friendly, quick, and knowledgeable.
Dr. was quick and thorough, office staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
I had an exceptional high quality experience, I would highly recommend Dr Patel and his friendly and professional staff to anyone!!!
I very much appreciate Dr. Patel's efficient and professional service. In particular, I appreciate how quickly I can see him if I have an issue. I was disappointed, however, that I did not get his office's message that he had called in my prescription last week.
Very professional, very friendly, very fast visit (although a bit of a wait.) Knew what was wrong right away.
Had a full physical done in less than an hour. Addressed all of my concerns quickly. Great assistant as well.
Dr. Patel is great! Always very professional. Highly recommend him.
I really like this practice. The staff is very helpful and, best of all, knowlegeable about insurance issues.
Always a pleasure
Dr. Patel was great. He is very attentive and knowledgeable. His office staff was also very courteous and attentive. I will definitely go back for his services.
Quick and efficient!
Went for an annual physical. The physical exam itself (vitals, neuro signs, etc.) was done by a very competent 3d year medical student who passed on her findings to Dr. Patel who reviewed them and addresed matters of concern. Received an EKG and blood work. Discussed my current medications with Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel's staff was pleasant and prompt. It's a very efficient office.
As many others have mentioned, very good doctor. He referred me to specialists without hesitation, listened to me closely, and made me feel like he cared. He does speak quietly as others have pointed out. I didn't find it a huge problem, he repeated things I didn't hear.
Every time I see Dr. Patel I am reminded of what a good doctor he is. He is patient, caring, and wants to figure out the right treatment plan. Definitely recommend him!
couldn't ask for a better PCP. if the worst thing you can say about him is that he doesn't return phone calls and is soft-spoken (both true), so be it. dr patel is smart, funny, LISTENS and TAKES TIME to provide proper care. i've already sent two friends to him.
I was able to get an appointment very quickly which feels almost impossible in DC. The medical student who performed my examination had excellent bedside manner and made me very comfortable throughout. I would highly recommend this practice.
Dr. Patel is great, but I had to wait awhile this time around. It was about 45 minutes before I was seen. His office staff is a little prickly, but his phlebotomist is fantastic! All in all, I've been pleased with Dr. Patel.
No complaints
Dr. Patel got me in and out quickly yet was very thorough, understanding and helpful. I'm now considering him my primary care physician.
Dr. Patel speaks softly and quickly, but his manner was fine. His PA had a truly outstanding bedside manner, so I gave a 5 for that. Even so, Dr Patel would be a 4 without the PA. Also the reception desk staff were more pleasant than is typical in DC, the office was clean, wait was bearable, etc. Best total office experience I've had in DC.
This doctor is great, efficient and very professional. He really takes time to explain things and understand why you are here. His team is also always great.
I like Dr. Patel and his staff. They are attentive and I feel good after my visits.
Always courteous and helpful.
Forgot to raise some issues with him! He speaks so softly I can barely hear him sometimes. I want to write him a letter or send him an e-mail. I have some real, meaty medical issues to discuss with him. Thanks.
Really not impressed. Just go there if you have no other options
Dr. Patel has been my physician for quite some time. He is caring and highly knowledgeable. His office is well-managed and dedicated to meeting the needs of patients. I highly recommend this practice to family members, friends, and colleagues.
Upon my early arrival as a new patient for an annual physical I asked the receptionist a few questions regarding my insurance - but she had know knowledge of what was going to be covered or not. She was not "rude" per se but not very pleasant - she then directed me to other staff at the office who also didn't really have the answers to my questions. I had already checked my insurance to ensure coverage - but every time I go to the doctor I double check (I've had experiences with "surprise" bills for things I thought were covered). Since they were less than helpful, I called my insurance just to make sure. I came in about 20 minutes early for my appointment, and was brought into the patient room about 35 minutes after my arrival. Then I waited another 10+ minutes alone in the room before the doctor came. Wasn't too bad of a wait time, but I hope next time it will be less...especially for someone who has to go to work immediately after the appointment. Dr. Patel was amiable and pleasant however very soft spoken and a fast talker. Nonetheless, he answered any questions I had and was more than happy to prescribe any medicines I needed. However - it took a while to get the prescriptions before I left...possibly miscommunication with the staff. I also had a blood test done in their lab downstairs, the lady there was fine but not very pleasant. Overall, the experience was fine and I may return - if I return it will be because of convenience to my home - I would suggest Dr. Patel hire a friendlier and more helpful support staff.
Good, to the point, took care of me without wasting my time or rushing to another patient.
He was very very soft spoken to the point I had to ask him to be louder. He also didn't provide eye contact until the end when he shook my hand. I thought that was strange.
Dr. Patel is wonderful.
It was great that I had an early morning appointment because there was practically no wait time. I was impressed with Ashesh Patel and the efficiency of his staff. I think the people working in the insurance company should be impressed that the staff working at his office was able to fax all the required paperwork in a fast turnaround timeframe. And I was assigned to a really nice medical student. I hope this person will become one of his permanent staff in the future.
Generally I was pleased. Dr. Patel seemed rushed, but gave me all his attention when he was with me. His med student Katherine was attentive and I was able to discuss my issues with her and feel that anything of importance was then re-visited by Dr. Patel when he came in
Long wait, crowded waiting area, paper-thin walls, disorganized front office, no vitals taken.
Disgraceful.
Friendly, intelligent, knowledgeable, and efficient.
I would definitely recommend Ashesh Patel to others. He was attentive and communicative while not extending my appointment time with unnecessary talk which I, and my schedule, appreciate!
I always like coming to see Dr. Ashesh Patel because he listens to my concerns and then explains everything to me. He is very thoughtful.
The blood tech was AMAZING!
Good doctor, but staff is horrible! They completely ignore you. I had an appointment, and came 15 min. prior it, bit still waited an hour to call in.
Very helpful in the visit. Spent about 10 minutes going through the options with me, had good pre-interview and made me feel comfortable with the process. Would visit again and recommend.
He delivered VERY good news to me today. He has been the most helpful Doctor I've been around with in awhile. He is thorough, and he is good and I feel comfortable with him.
I didn't feel rushed, and appreciated the time with the doctor. He answered all my questions. The wait time was over an hour, including 30 minutes after I was shown to the exam room. However, I do like that they do blood work on site, so I figured I saved time from having to go elsewhere for that part of the annual exam. Also, I had to wait another 15 minutes after my appointment to get my prescription written up, I'm not sure why the doctor didn't write it right there, really inefficient process.
Dr. Patel knows his stuff. I wish the wait time was less than an hour to see him!
Very friendly and professional
Pretty good. A little socially awkward and rushed, but I felt he was pretty thorough, and his assistant was friendly and thorough as well. I would recommend. Front staff is not friendly.
I highly recommend Dr. Patel. I'm new to the area and caught the flu in February. He was very thorough, personable, and professional, and there were no long waits at his office.
friendly staff and doctor. very pleasant and listened.
Very good visit. I'm normally seen right away, but the office was very busy today. Not the norm.
It was a pleasant experience. The front desk staff was very friendly. The wait was a bit long, but not too bad.
It was good overall. Only suggestion is to organize the area where the bloodwork is taken. As you reach the bottom of the stairs, an open trash container of medical supplies is the first thing you see. There are files spilling over and boxes piled on top of boxes.
very smart, really nice, my first time in and he was awesome! the wait time was really long, but I assume its b/c hes good and busy!
Dr. Patel was great. Very personable, competent, and open to questions. The wait time was short, the phlebotomist was excellent. A med student did my initial exam, so it was a little choppy, but hey, they're learning, and Dr. Patel made up for any deficiencies there. The only negative is that the receptionist was curt and relatively unwelcoming. Overall, great experience, and I will continue to use Dr. Patel for primary care.
Fast and friendly. This was my second visit and, if need be, I'll go back again.
Long wait time.
Dr. Patel does listen very well and fully communicates with you before you go. While the industry standard is to schedule 8 minute appointments, Dr. Patel takes the time required to address your needs. The phlebotomist was really good, too. I also appreciate that Dr. Patel has a policy against listening to sales pitches from pharmaceutical reps; it makes me feel more confident in the quality of care I am receiving.
Friendly and quick.
On my first visit I was seen primary but the nurse practitioner who was very nice and informative. Dr. Patel made a point to come introduce himself and review my chart and condition himself towards the end of the visit.
I had a very positive interaction with Dr. Patel. He was friendly, shook my hand, and said "nice to meet you." Sad, that such simple gestures were noticeable, but given my previous experiences with Western doctors, I was pleased by his demeanor. I did not feel rushed, he answered my questions, and paused when I had concluded my questions to ensure that I finished.
Bit of a wait, but he seemed fairly nice.
Helpful as usual :)
Dr. Patel was very informative and helpful, and his staff were quite friendly. Great experience overall.
Dr. Patel is a great doctor with an excellent manner. He never seems rushed, spends time asking questions and always offers helpful guidance and referrals when needed. Highly recommended.
A great doctor with a very helpful staff. Rama in particular is fantastic.
Mr. Patel and his staff were very professional, courteous, and efficient. I only went for a regular checkup and a mgoing back
It took quite a bit longer to get in this time, but I'll chalk that up to it being flu season. When I did finally get in, Dr. Patel didn't seem rushed and addressed all of my concerns with confidence and clarity.
Very easy to set up - waited about half an hour. Saw medical student first and followed up with Doctor. Helpful and straightforward.
Patel is great. always personable and his staff is nice enough
Excellent doctor. He was efficient and knowledgeable. I would recommend him highly.
Seems very knowledgeable and non-threatening. Highly recommend.
Dr Patel is very professional, very thorough, very friendly and the same is true for his staff.
Dr. Patel was very helpful. He is soft-spoken, but took the time to listen to me and explain his suggested treatment. I would recommend Dr. Patel.
Really smart guy. Very willing to listen.
Always offers useful information & very knowledgeable.
Not that I've been to tons of docs in DC, but this was the best experience I've had so far. Nice office, friendly staff, and great nursing.
I will definitely make him and his staff my permanent doctor!
Dr. Patel is a superb physician. He is caring, patient, and thorough. If you are looking for a doctor in Washington, DC, I highly recommend him.
Dr is very soft spoken - I had a hard time hearing him, and had to ask him to repeat himself many times.
It was a little slow, especially getting processed after being seen, but Dr. Patel knew his stuff and the staff was friendly and professional.
I made an appointment with Dr. Patel based on the great reviews on this site and I was not disappointed. I have been looking for a doctor for years who actually listens, cares, and is a good doctor and he does those all very well.
quick and efficient. Lab and Rx in 15 mins.
Dr Patel's a really nice guy who knows his stuff!
Dr. Patel is great--the office is pretty efficient, he listens and responds to his patients (something all doctors should do but fewer and fewer seem too).
I felt more assured that he'd find out what was wrong with me than I have with any other doctor I've come across in the last decade.
He was laid back, listened, very good at just walking you through the problem. He is a soft talker though, so don't hesitate to ask him to repeat what he said if you couldn't hear him.
I went in for a physical and basic lab work (cholesterol, sugars, etc.). Surprisingly, he said they have added Vit. D levels to the standard tests they run. But I noticed they still have not added an HIV test as a standard test that is recommended. With our city's HIV/AIDS rate, I think it should be a test that patients have to "opt out" of rather than something that someone should have to ask for. It would help more people become aware of their status, positive or negative. Also, he speaks quickly and quietly. Perhaps too quickly and quietly. Speak up!
I waited a while, but the office was clearly busy, and the Doctor sincerely apologized to me for the wait.
Seems like a nice guy but only saw him for six minutes for my general physical. A medical student did the actual physical examination. Did not offer much feedback or comments. Little interaction with the actual doctor.
I like him a lot. He is soft spoken, so one needs to listen closely to him, but he is attentive and effective
I thought the experience was good. I think he is a "keeper." The staff was helpful and very nice as well.
Good experience - not the chummiest of doctors, but on the other hand, he comes off as competent and professional.
It was okay.Had to wait long
I was quick and painless.
Dr. Patel was great. As the other reviews has mentioned he is a soft spoken person. I was a new patient and had a immediate need to see Dr. Patel. I was able to schedule to come in within only 2 days. Very little wait time and once seen by Dr. Patel, he dianosed my problem immediately, unlike my previous doctor. He also allowed me to get a full physical performed on that same visit. Blood was drawn and the urinalisis was done all at his office. I would highly recommend Dr. Patel to anyone. Just keep your ears open and ask him to repeat anything you could not hear. The only negative was that his front desk secretary was a little snappy and not as friendly/professional as she should be.
He was very nice, professional, willing to sit and answer questions. Office was very clean
Quick, efficient and no nonsense. Pleasant, but very business-like. Wish he would speak louder.
Ashesh Patel is a great guy and very professional. He's straight and to the point without seeming cold or unfeeling. I would recommend him without reservation. The med students in the office are also fantastic - they were very thorough and answered all my questions. I was a first-time patient and I plan on making Dr. Patel my primary care physician. No complaints.
Dr. Patel tends to mumble a bit, although when you can actually hear him, he makes sense.
Dr. Patel was quiet, but efficient, and most importantly, available for someone who needed to go to a doctor quickly. Highly recommended!
Dr. Patel was straight to the point. Diagnosis. Prognosis. Stats. He is a consummate professional.
Dr Patel is very knowledgeable and very quick to diagnose. The staff was very very friendly and helpful.Student-doctors in training were very knowledgeable.
Very professional, makes me feel comfortable
Good guy. Very competent.
I am surprised that Dr. Patel is still accepting new patients! His attentiveness, and patience in explaining everything is unmatched!
Dr Patel is very knowledgeable and very quick to diagnose and also allay any fears
My visit to Dr. Patel was great. The wait time was reasonable and the student-doctors in training were very knowledgeable.
The staff was very very friendly and helpful. They were a bit understaffed because of spring break, but I expect that they will see me faster one my next visit.
I think Doctor Patel, listened carefully to my concerns and the issue(s)I was having. Instead of just prescribing me something at will he decided to wait for the test results, which I appreciate. His staff if friendly and his practice is so easy to get to.
This was my second visit to Dr. Patel, after discovering him on ZocDoc - he's a great physician and is very efficient. I had a potentially serious condition today and felt very well-attended to and cared for - Dr. Patel returned my calls quickly even after hours. If you schedule a visit, my only advice would be come prepared with questions as he seems to move patients in and out fairly quickly. But, if you have questions, he answers them thoroughly and it's clear he very much cares for his patients.
This was my first visit, but I was happy with the experience.
The same as usual, nice and helpful. I've been a patient of Dr. Patel for some time now. I pretty much know what to expect, I have no complaints and can say that Dr. Patel is a very good doctor. I would definitely recommend him.
I made an online appointment for a physical at 9am and almost immediately was called back by Dr. Patel who gave me the option of coming in earlier, at 7:30 or 8am. In the meantime, I got terrible back pains from shoveling snow, so I asked the doctor to help me with that during my physical. Dr. Patel was very flexible and accommodating, medicated me right away and recommend an excellent physical therapy facility near by. I was very pleased and eased after seeing Dr. Patel, who is very straight forward and to the point. No waste of time, but you don't feel rushed either.
Doctor Ashesh Patel is a PHENOMENAL doctor...and i don't use that word lightly. My appointment was at 9am Tuesday morning. I arrived at 8:55am, i filled out the paper work as was seen almost immediately there after. The staff was great, kind, professional without being rigid, and were genuinely caring. The office was very "old school" witch i like very much in my doctors office as i feel it is much more hands on. I did spend more time talking with his assistant a sweet and kind med student at GW hospital, but she communicated everything to him and he knew exactly what was going on and didn't need to answer 1000 questions all over again. I have 2 broken ribs and a cold, witch was the purpose of my visit. Dr. Patel is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and never skipped a beat when talking with me. As a new resident to Washington DC he is my new primary care physician, and i cant imagine going to any other doctor. With my first visit his staff and himself now have a patient for life. 99.999999% of doctors these days are very blunt and cold and seem to care more about making sure you get your bill then making sure you are doing okay, but Dr. Patel has an old fashioned charm that truly makes you feel like a human being and not just another "number" like most other doctors do these days. I recommend him to anyone and everyone, you wont find a doctor or staff like them anywhere else these days. Even if you already have a PCP, i suggest giving him a try even just for a regular check up so you can see first hand what a wonderful individual he really is =D!...you just might end up switching to him.
I got there a bit early so that I could fill out whatever paperwork was necessary, and the staff was very courteous and helpful. I was a little surprised that the preliminary examination was done by a GWU medical student, but she seemed like she knew what she was doing, and was very professional. When Dr. Patel came in, I was a bit surprised at how young he seemed, but again, he was very professional and really seemed to know what he was doing. All in all, it was a very satisfactory experience, and took less than an hour.
This was my first visit to his office, and I went for my annual physical. I arrived early before my scheduled appointment to fill out the necessary paperwork. Upon finishing that, it was only a short wait until my name was called. A resident actually performed my physical. But in my brief meeting with Dr. Patel afterward, he was friendly and sounded very knowledgeable. My appointment concluded with having my blood drawn and giving my urine sample - no problems. Overall, it was a very smooth first visit! I look forward to contacting and visiting Dr. Patel for my future medical needs.
This was my first visit to the clinic, which struck me as an old-fashioned doctor's office. The staff was professional. The wait was a bit long, but it sort of went with the old charm of the place. Doctor Patel was very pleasant, quiet, soft-spoken, and informal. Although his examination was short, I felt it was thorough and to the point. He seemed caring without fussing too much, which worked fine for me.
Nice and knowledgeable, I've already recommended him to a friend in Virginia who has never found a doctor around her that she likes.
Dr. Patel was wonderful, the entire office was friendly and easy to get through the new patient paperwork. There was a bit of a wait -but it's also cold season, so it was manageable. I would definitely recommend him to friends as well as go back myself!
Very professional. My wait consisted of the time it took me to fill out new patient paperwork. He was very efficient, and I would definitely recommend.
This was my first visit with Dr. Patel. It was very professional and his staff was great. I did not have much face time with Dr. Patel, however I recieved the attention I needed for my visit and feel good about the visit.
I was impressed by how prompt he was, particularly since I'm a new patient and needed to fill out a lot of paperwork. He is very nice, though softspoken and his staff is extremely helpful. Ellen was terrific in sorting out insurance issues.
