Having practiced for more than 30 years in NYC, I work primarily with patients suffering from panic attacks and/or other anxiety disorders and depression. These are highly treatable conditions and I see fairly rapid progress. I treat a variety of problems that arise from patients' needs to avoid uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. I also teach assertiveness and communication skills to enhance relationships. Being successfully married for 37 years, I bring a wealth of personal experience to couples counseling. Therapy is centered on giving people the tools they need to move on and enjoy their lives.
I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist. Many of my patients left psychoanalysis because they weren't taught tools needed for change. I teach coping skills, relaxation techniques and rational thinking. I focus on the present, and am very goal oriented and directive. Therapy is usually short term.
Having suffered from panic attacks and depression myself and learned to overcome them, I am especially skilled in teaching others the techniques I have learned. Patients tell me that I understand where they are coming from and am very supportive. I enjoy seeing people improve!
Good. Dr. McGuire has helped me. She did twenty years ago and I had been very good for many years. Came back because she helped me.
Iris is a sheer joy to go to every week -- I leave her office renewed and with purpose each session.
Dr. McGuire is the slrt you hope for but so rarely find. She is engaged, compassionate, and tells you what you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear. Most importantly, when she looks at you, it is as a human, not a patient.
