So many times a patient schedules an appointment to see a doctor that they know very little about, or worse, nothing at all. An appointment is scheduled with some nervousness about the capabilities of the physician they are scheduling with, and often times cancelled based on what they don't know about the doctor.
If you have a moment, I would like to briefly introduce myself and my philosophy on patient care. My name is Dr. Joel R. Anderson; I'm a physician and surgeon of foot and ankle disorders. I'm originally from Racine, WI and my undergraduate studies were from the University of Wisconsin where I graduated with honors and received an Academic Achievement Award. I moved to Chicago in 1992 where I graduated from the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1996. While attending medical school, I was given a Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence. Following medical school graduation, I completed two years of residency training at Oak Forest Hospital of Cook County and Norwegian American Hospital. Both are local Chicago hospitals that offered exhaustive training in the medical and surgical treatment of all foot and ankle disorders ranging from infants to the elderly, including elective surgical procedures with cosmetic considerations, extensive diabetic patient management and emergency surgical situations. I was the chief resident at both hospitals. During my second year of residency, I went to Mexico for a Medical Mission at Matehuala General Hospital in Matehuala, Mexico to perform surgical procedures on a multitude of foot and ankle pathology from infants to adults.
I started in private practice after my residency training in 1998. I have been fortunate with the education that I have received and continue to give back by being an integral part of the residency training program at Norwegian American Hospital. I am currently the associate residency director and surgical consultant for all foot and ankle problems. Norwegian American Hospital is one of multiple affiliations. Others include: Advanced Ambulatory Surgery Center, Water Tower Surgery Center, Same Day Surgery Center, Jefferson Park Podiatric Surgicare and Parkside Urology Center at Lutheran General Hospital. I am certified in Electrocorporeal Shockwave Therapy, Echosonographic Ultrasound Imaging, Nerve Decompression Surgery, Laser Surgery and Arthroscopic/Endoscopic procedures.
I can bring a wide range of experience and training to all patients ranging from infant to adult. I believe the key to patient care is attention to details and that taking time with patients is the most important aspect of your medical treatment. I take pride in establishing a personalized program and a treatment regimen that corresponds to my individual patient needs. Though surgery is an important component to the correction of many foot and ankle ailments, I strongly believe it is a last option after all conservative therapy has been exhausted. I am proud of the fact that patients are well informed and that we reach treatment options together after discussing their advantages. …
