Professional Statement:

Dr. John Carew graduated from Cornell University Medical College in 1991. Following this, he completed a Residency in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. In 1999, he completed a 2-year fellowship in head and neck cancer surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. He received his Board Certification in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 1998. Since 1999, he has been in practice caring for both adult and pediatric patients with general ear, nose and throat disorders as well as with tumors of the head and neck region. He is also a diplomate of the Joint Council on training in Head and Neck Surgery
Dr. John Carew has published over 35 articles and 10 book chapters both on topics in general otolaryngology as well as specifically in head and neck cancer. Many of the articles focused primarily on thyroid and salivary gland tumors. He is on the editorial board of 5 nationally renowned medical journals including Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Cancer and Head and Neck. Dr. Carew has received numerous awards throughout his career including national awards from the Triological Society (a national Otolaryngology society), the American Society of Head and Neck Surgery and the Society of Head and Neck Surgery. He was also awarded, by the residents who he trains, the Teacher of the Year Award recognizing him as the top teacher in Otolaryngology for both the Columbia and Cornell Medical school campuses. During his training, he was awarded the distinguished house staff award for the New York Hospital- Cornell University Medical Center.
Dr. John Carew currently has privileges at Mount Sinai Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
On a personal note, Dr. John Carew has been married to his wife Donna Carew for over 15 years. He is a dedicated father to their three children.
