Dr. Kathleen Mitchell OD

Professional Statement

Dr. Kathleen Mitchell is a board certified optometrist with extensive experience in primary care of the entire family. Her background includes the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, specialty contact lens fitting with particular interest in multifocals and rigid gas permeable lenses of the latest design, as well as a decade of co-management experience with several local ophthalmologists. She has been practicing in the greater Atlanta area for the past eleven years. Her skills, plus her gentle and professional demeanor have won her the respect of her patients and colleagues alike.

Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Mitchell obtained her undergraduate training from Wilfrid Laurier University. Here she graduated magna cum laude with a B.Sc. in Biology and Chemistry in 1993. She then went on to earn her doctorate degree in Optometry, graduating with honors, from the University of Waterloo in 1997. After completing an internship in Ocular Disease in Atlanta, in 1996, Dr. Mitchell made Georgia her permanent home.

For the past ten years, Dr. Mitchell has also been active in many charitable endeavors. She has served as a volunteer doctor on several Gift of Sight missions both locally and abroad. Her most memorable mission trip involved traveling to rural Mexico in 2002 where she participated in the screening and vision care of 35,000 deserving and special needs children.

Currently, Dr. Mitchell resides with her husband, David, in Alpharetta, Georgia where they are very busy raising their two small children, Larissa and Gavin. In her spare time, Dr. Mitchell enjoys playing piano, gardening, and cooking for her friends and large extended family. …
