While my 5 minute interaction with Ken Akizuki was pleasant and he seemed knowledgeable, the way his office operates can only be described as incompetent. When I arrived, no one was at the reception. A harried woman in a white jacket arrived and told me the computers were down. She had me wait to 10 minutes. I informed her that I was a new patient and might need to fill out some paperwork. She gave me intake forms and I filled them out. I then waited approximately 45 minutes and was then seen by Cliff, who said he was Akizuki's assistant. Cliff then asked me questions that I already answered in the paperwork I filled out, and took notes on my responses (except that his were less detailed than what I had already filled out). Then a woman came in, who said she was another assistant of Akizuki's and took more notes about the ankle issue I had come in for. By the time Akizuki came in, it was almost an hour and a half past my scheduled appointment time. He spent five minutes with me and said I needed an MRI and a night ankle stretcher. I then had an MRI taken but found it very difficult to get the results back from Akizuki. Despite repeated calls and messages to Akizuki's assistant (which is the only way to reach him), they would not release my MRI results to me. I had to go back to the place where I had the MRI and get the results myself. Only approximately two weeks later did I get a message from another Akizuki assistant who told me the results and what to do. While Akizuki may be a competent doctor, his staff and office setup is horrible.
My initial visit with him went great. Not too much waiting, and seemed to be a very competent doctor. Looking forward to continuing working with him in the future to get my knee fixed!
Dr. Akizuki is one of the best doctor's in California. Ask him to show you his SF Giants World Series ring. He is on the medical staff of the Giants. Highly recommended.
