Dr. Michael E. Stevens grew up in the Phoenix area. He attended Northern Arizona University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991.

He attended medical school at the University of Arizona where he graduated in 1995. He trained in Internal Medicine at Banner Regional Medical Center in Phoenix, completing residency in 1998. Dr. Stevens became board certified in Internal Medicine in 1998.

Dr. Stevens has extensive experience caring for hospitalized patients. He has been active for years in the mentoring of new physicians and has been deeply involved in shaping the emerging practice of hospitalist medicine in the Phoenix area.

He worked for a local hospital system and then a large private hospitalist practice until founding Desert Vista Medical Associates in 2005. He maintains a busy outpatient practice and remains very active in the care of hospitalized patients and in the hospitalist movement.

Dr. Stevens has a wide range of personal hobbies and interests including the collecting of ancient coins and artifacts, writing books of poetry, traveling, history, science, music, art, and basketball.

Dr. Stevens believes passionately in preventing medical problems. When medications and procedures are required, he believes in using the fewest medications and least invasive procedures possible to achieve success. He is dedicated to quality evidence based care and believes individual people can have a significant impact on the quality of their healthcare if they have the information needed to make good decisions.
