By age nine, Nigerian-born, Dr. Oluyemisi (Yemi) Famuyiwa, a Board Certified Infertility Specialist, knew she wanted to be a physician. Today she is the founder of the Montgomery Fertility Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. Dr. Famuyiwa is also the Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University School of Medicine and an attending physician at Holy Cross Hospital in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Dr. Famuyiwa loves people and the field of medicine. Her patients come from all over the world. Dr. Famuyiwa says, “There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my patients return with their children.” Being a sole practitioner gives the doctor the flexibility to spend as much time as she needs with patients, and get to know them well. It also allows her to balance professional and personal life.
In 1989, Dr. Famuyiwa received her medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Famuyiwa did her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1989 to 1993 at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She held a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at The National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland from 1993 to 1995. Dr. Famuyiwa graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio with a degree in Biological Sciences.
