Dr.Charlu has been incredible in every way .She actually managed my child's treatment in a such a way that he was able to turn his life around and go from avoiding school to making straight As and receiving a college scholarship .
Extremely compassionate ,patient and efficient .

Dr. Charlu is a graduate of the Yale School of Medicine, with residency training at Harvard Medical School, and child psychiatry specialization at NYU. She is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, with expertise in problems of depression, anxiety, panic, Obsessive compulsive disorder, child behavior, childhood ADHD, and psychosis. Dr. Charlu believes strongly in the importance of therapy, as well as the balanced, evidence-based use of medications if necessary. Dr. Charlu feels every session is a therapeutic one, and takes the time to understand a client's difficulties in the context of their relationships, jobs, school, and daily lives. All new clients receive a comprehensive initial evaluation- 90 minutes for adults and 3 hours for children. Future appointments last 30-45 minutes.
Dr. Charlu received her M.D. cum laude from Yale University, graduating in the top 5% of the class and inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed a pediatric internship and adult psychiatry residency at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was administrative chief resident. She also trained in group analytic therapy at the MGH Center for Psychoanalytic Studies. Dr. Charlu later specialized in child/adolescent psychiatry at NYU.
Dr. Charlu has over 15 years experience working in academic and private settings. She was Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical School, where she served as Medical Director of the Day Treatment Program. She was also Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical School, where she was Attending Psychiatrist. She has received many awards for her dedication to patient care

I didn't have the best luck with this doctor. In fairness, I booked the day of, we were supposed to have a phone conversation prior to the appointment but were unable, so spent most of the session going over background details. This was not a helpful session. Did not connect Dr. Charlu, it wasn't a good fit.

Dr. Charlu was an absolute pleasure from start to finish - she made me feel very welcome, was completely understanding of my feelings and wanted to find the best solution to fit my needs. She is very caring and you can see that in her exceptional customer service through both the administrative process as well as actual medical practice. I would highly recommend her to anyone!

As someone who has seen a variety of psychiatrists over the years, Dr. Charlu is one of the most compassionate and thorough I have ever worked with. Dr. Charlu was very empathetic and very sensitive to the issues I brought to our session. I was completely comfortable confiding in her and I could tell that she was actually listening and not in a rush to prescribe me something.

I loved using the ZocDoc appointment system. I made the appointment on Sunday, sent an email requesting a telephone conference and held my call with her Monday morning. I was absolutely impressed with her discerning questions, listening skills and understanding of the critical nature of my call, since I live outside NYC.

I've been to a few psychologists and have been disappointed with all of them except for Dr. Charlu. Most doctors went over a general checklist of anxieties and basically prescribe me the same thing every time, but Dr. Charlu was professional and personal and I felt for the first time I had a dr that was actually listening. Highly recommended.

Excellent doctor - Very experienced and knowledgeable. She took the time to understand my issues....listened, was not judgemental, very caring/empathetic and thoughtful. I liked the fact that she did not rush, took an intense interest in my well being and was thorough in her analysis. She has been excellent in following up and responding to my inquiries. Having been to numerous psychiatrist previously……..she is the best one I have come across.

I absolutely recommend Dr. Charlu if you are looking for a comprehensive, compassionate evaluation, and thoughtful, expert treatment. She spent 90 minutes with me during the first appointment (I don't think any doctors do this anymore), and I definitely felt that she understood me. She followed up with me via email a few days after the appointment, and again after a week or so to see how I was doing on the treatment we had decided upon. She is also completely accessible via email between appointments, which is really important to me. As a side note, I love how efficiently her office runs - everything is done electronically (prescriptions, scheduling, appointment reminders, receipts). This is very unlike my prior doctor. She is the best, and I'm so thankful I found her.

She was great - very supportive and nice. Ensured she had a thorough history of me beforehand which made the first appointment much easier for her to guide her way through to figure out a good solution for us to move forward.

Dr. Charlu is extraordinarily kind, thoughtful, and smart. She took time to understand what was going on , and followed up with calls between appointments to see how I was doing after starting a new medicine. I am doing very well now and credit the doctor for this.

Absolutely the best psychiatrist you can see. She spends a lot of time getting a complete picture of your mental health and she was able to give me an accurate diagnosis that had not been seen for years by other doctors. She is also extremely caring, and you can tell she is really invested in helping her patients get better. She works closely with you to get you on the right medicine and to make sure you feel comfortable the entire time. Very grateful for her help!

She was amazing- professional, courteous, caring and super interested in my health concerns. Probably the best doctor I have met in my life. She has top credentials Yale, Harvard, NYU...you can sense the difference after just one session. I would recommend her to my family, friends and everyone else whole heartedly. Just an amazing Psychiatrist.
