My standards for podiatrists are high, given that my uncle is one and has treated my occasional foot issues my entire life... until I moved seven hours from home. But I can't say enough good things about Dr. Stein and his staff. I've been seeing Dr. Stein out of his Highland Park location for almost five months. At each appointment, he took the time to ask about my pain level and any changes before jumping into the next treatment. When I recently went in and described my pain at a level eight before the treatment, we talked about surgery and decided to go that route rather than continuing with expensive treatments that didn't seem to be working. I asked about risks and side effects, and he was honest about those but also reassuring given his vast experience with repairing nerve damage caused by other surgeons. Now here's the part I found most impressive -- surgery was initially scheduled for a Wednesday morning. Less than three miles from the hospital, my husband and I were involved in a fairly serious car accident when a car ran a red light and caused a four car collision. I called the hospital to let them know I wouldn't be there, and later rescheduled surgery with Dr. Stein's staff (who had taken it upon themselves to call me and see how I was after hearing from the hospital what happened). Several days later, Dr. Stein called me himself as well to see how I was post-accident. It's hard to find doctors who seem to really care when you're sitting in front of them, but to take the time to call on a Saturday afternoon when the accident was unrelated to any of my visits or treatment? Unheard of -- and very appreciated. I had surgery yesterday and while it's too early to evaluate the success, I can say that I am resoundingly pleased with Dr. Stein and the level of care he's provided, including listening, giving me options, and working with me to evaluate the pain. His staff at the Highland Park office, Cynthia and Aneed are both amazing as well. I have recommended Dr. Stein to many of colleagues and will continue to do so.
