The Astoria Medical, Dental & LASIK Center, located in a very busy section of Astoria, is a multipurpose center that serves the medical, dental, eye care &
LASIK needs of residents from the New York metropolitan area all under one roof, while helping to bridge the gap in health services left by hospitals & medical centers in the area that have since closed its doors.
The 10,000-square-foot building features state-of-the-art equipment and comprises of three main departments: medical, dental and ophthalmology/LASIK. The medical center consists of 16 spacious examination rooms where doctors can examine the patients and hold consultations. In addition, the center has a LASIK surgery room, four office suites, three reception/waiting areas, a nurses station/triage area and other amenities.
Lending almost a small hospital aura in its layout, our vision in designing this center was one of providing premium quality patient care while utilizing latest medical equipment and healthcare information technology in the most effective manner. And, given the HITECH Act accelerating the adoption of EHR, the Center is in an auspicious position to function in a paperless environment from the outset. Hence, a model “meaningful use” site in action!
The facility fills the gap for the residents’ healthcare needs after a number of local hospitals and medical centers shut their doors. Most recently, Peninsula Hospital Center announced it is preparing to shut down. Two other hospitals in Queens — St. John’s Queens Hospital in Elmhurst and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica — closed down as well. Reflecting the diversity of the area, the staff at Astoria Medical, Dental & LASIK Center speaks a number of languages, including Greek, Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali and Arabic.
A labor of love in every detail, we hope to present this Center as a model for excellent patient care coupled with state-of-the-art medical and healthcare information technology.
