Practice Statement
Dr. Gary Brauner is presently an Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and is Chief, emeritus, of the Department of Dermatology at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood New Jersey, a Mount Sinai medical affiliate. ... at Yale College as a Yale National Scholar for four years graduating magna cum laude in Mathematics and Philosophy Honors in 1963. He received his MD from Harvard University in 1967 and then interned in medicine from 1967-68 at The Jewish Hospital of St Louis ( Missouri) and Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in dermatology at Harvard at the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1968-1971 where he was chief resident. After training and serving at the Medical Field Service School as Major (USAR) he then served from 1971-1974 as a dermatology consultant at USA 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl Germany and was awarded the National Service ribbon. Dr.Brauner is certified by the American Board of Dermatology in Dermatology and by the American Boards of Dermatology and Pathology in Dermatopathology. He is presently actively licensed in New York and New Jersey to practice medicine. In 1974 he began his academic career serving as Assistant Clinical, later Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York) where he was Chief of Dermatology at Morrisania Hospital, North Central Bronx Hospital and Rikers Island Medical facility and was co-director of the Cutaneous Laser Research and Treatment Center at Albert Einstein, New York’s first dermatology postgraduate laser training program. From 1987 to 1994 he was Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at New York Medical College, co-director of their Cutaneous Laser Research and Treatment Center and head of Dermatologic Surgery at Metropolitan Hospital (New York). From 1993 to present he is Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He has presented nationally and internationally more than 130 lectures and clinical presentations (particularly on laser surgery of the skin or on skin and hair diseases in African-Americans) and published 37 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has served as Assistant Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Clinical Laser Medicine and Surgery, and Associate editor of Dialogues of Dermatology,Hospital Physician, Dermatologia,and Hospital Practice.
