I first consulted with Dr. Covert today because although I am having a successful career as an ocean engineer, I have not been able to perform to my potential since my days as an engineering student at Texas A&M University. This is primarily because I have been plagued by my distractibility, difficulties organizing, problems completing tasks and procrastination. This has begun to affect my work and I believe has thwarted my career advancement and development. I have a friend who has ADHD and he also has a child with ADHD and after discussing my symptoms with him, I did a little research and decided that the appropriate thing would be to get a neuropsychiatric evaluation and treatment, if necessary. My experience with Dr. Covert was a positive one. He confirmed my suspicions that I have adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, primarily the inattentive type, as well as a generalized anxiety disorder and an occupational problem, namely, that my career has been inhibited. My evaluation and treatment were delayed due the extensive time that I have spent out of the continental United States, working in over 11 foreign countries for extended periods of time over the past 17 years. For example, I have just returned from a job during which I lived for 5 years in China. Dr. Covert did a good job of explaining not only my diagnosis, but what I could expect from treatment. I am starting medication in the morning and am looking forward to the control of these symptoms which have plagued me ever since I can remember. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Covert to anyone I knew. Another complication of my traveling has been a disconnection with health care providers. My last physical exam was in a Malasian clinic. Dr. Covert referred me to a board certified family practitioner so that I could get a thorough physical examination, baseline laboratory studies and yearly physicals and have a source for referrals to other medical and dental specialists.
