While there are many different ways to lose weight--as we can tell by turning on the TV or listening to the radio--it is important to make sure that this is done in the right way. In the past, many of the fad diets that have turned up have ended up being harmful, and have left many patients less healthy than when they started. This is unfortunate, as the ostensible goal of weight loss
is to become healthier. Doctors
have noted all of these past trends, and you will find that most doctors are rather conservative with their weight loss recommendations. They will generally recommend moderation, exercise, and portion control. While some may be in touch with the recent fads such as high fat, high protein, or other diets focused on a certain approach, most doctors will instead focus on your overall health, with weight as only a part of that puzzle. For those patients who are morbidly obese, there is some interesting evidence suggesting that weight loss surgery
may be an appropriate consideration. If you have specific concerns or questions about a diet, please speak directly to your doctor for advice prior to beginning anything extreme. Again, please speak to your doctor.
