Can a heart murmur go away on its own?
My heart murmur developed out of the blue, does it go away out of the blue, or do i need to take meds or make lifestyle changes?
The short answer is that, yes, some heart murmurs can go away on their own. The answer in your case is likely to be much more complicated, however, and you will need to discuss this with your doctor to be able to make sure that there is not a concerning medical problem that has caused your murmur and needs to be addressed. In children especially, there are conditions known as benign heart murmurs that can occur and can resolve over time. Some highly trained athletes will also have additional heart sounds that are not present in normal people. For the rest of us, however, a heart murmur is something that should be treated carefully and fully evaluated by a medical professional. While this could be something that has been present for your whole life, it is also possible that this indicates that there has been a change in the status of your heart. For example, some people develop murmurs after a heart attack. It is obviously impossible to be able to correctly diagnose and treat you without knowing more information. Therefore, please speak with your doctor about your concerns so that you can be appropriately treated and diagnosed.
