I have a white tongue. Could it be HIV?
Is white and I am not sure if is hiv
Having a white tongue can mean that you might have an infection. However, HIV certainly isn't the first thing that comes to mine. The first thing that comes to mind is an infection with candida which is a type of yeast, and I recommend you discuss this with your physician. Now infections with candida can happen in people who have compromised immune systems which can happen with HIV. Thus, if you presented to my office and had this symptom, I would probably test you for HIV. I would be more concerned if you had a history of activities that put you at risk for HIV such as unprotected sex with multiple partners and/or use of IV drugs. Because of how treatable HIV is, it is always a good idea to get tested anytime you have an encounter that you think might have exposed you. The best physician for you to present to about this is your primary care doctor. If you still have that white tongue then you doctor might decide to take a sample of the surface to see what it is. Alternatively you might just get treated for candida. If you request it, your doctor will likely also test you for HIV, as this is something that is recommended for everyone at least once in your lifetime. Good luck.
