Thank you for your question. There are multiple things that can be the cause of the smell and infections that you describe, but you should discuss this with your doctor
. In general, the fishy smell that you are describing seems to imply some variation of bacterial vaginosis, which can happen when there is a disturbance in the normal bacterial flora. BV, as it is often called, is quite common and can be more common in those who have intercourse infrequently, as your question seems to imply. This disturbance in the normal bacteria that live in the vagina can also predispose to other kinds of infections, such as bladder infections. All of this does need to be treated appropriately, however, as there are many other possible explanations. Additionally, BV and bladder infections left untreated can become serious problems in and of themselves. Your doctor will be able to provide some insight into your problem and ask appropriate questions in follow up. Additionally, he or she may be able to test you for other common infections and other problems that could be causing your recurrent infections. Please speak with your doctor, and good luck with your situation.
