This is a good question. It is difficult to know what your diagnosis could be without seeing the lumps so it is very important that you make an appointment with your primary care doctor
to have a full history and physical. Depending on what your doctor discovers at your visit, he or she may do a biopsy
of one of the lumps or completely excise it. Your doctor may also refer you to a dermatologist
for this. Causes of lumps under the skin are many. One possibility is lipomas, which are benign fatty tumors that can occur almost anywhere on your body. Another possibility is cysts, which are liquid filled sacs under the skin. These are usually benign but can become infected and cause problems. Dermatofibromas could also be the cause of the lumps under your skin. These are a form of scar tissue and are also benign. Although rare, various cancers and other diseases can present as lumps under the skin so again, it is very important to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to get a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In the meantime, try to leave the lumps alone to prevent possible infection.
