What is the best type of mattress to maintain a healthy and PAIN FREE lower back?
Please tell me best brand considering price as well....
This is an excellent question and one that is best answered by a primary care doctor or medical professional who can evaluate your specific symptoms and obtain a complete physical and history and decide upon what the correct course of action may be. In general, although mattresses are important to help keep your low back comfortable, there are several methods to maintain a healthy and pain free low back which will lead to a long term improvement in your symptoms which would be much more long lasting than the type of mattress you use. These include low back stretching exercises, keeping your weight in normal ranges, avoiding smoking, and physical therapy as needed to avoid putting strain on your lower back and causing pain. If you have pain in your low back already, your doctor may suggest steroid injections, tens units, stretching, PT/OT to help with these symptoms or if these do not work, they may get an MRI to evaluate whether there is something pathologic going on which may require a surgical evaluation. Even if surgery is an option, you should make sure that you have exhausted all nonsurgical options before you go on to have surgery.
