"What otc's could help with scalp acne problem?"

I've been using selsun blue ever sense the spots developed.

Selsun blue is a brand name shampoo that contains the element selenium. This element is not really helpful in treating acne, but can be helpful in treating 2 other skin conditions. The skin conditions that selenium can help treat are tinea vericolor (a fungal infection of the skin), and seborrhoeic dermatitis.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a skin condition that involves itchy red skin over areas that are typically oily such as the scalp. This type of condition is what causes dandruff. Selenium based shampoos can be effective against this. If you are experiencing pure acne on your scalp area, then you will need to be using a different treatment. The first line treatment for acne is a topical based medication called benzoyl peroxide. This compound helps to dry out the skin where the acne is developing, and can help kill bacteria that are involved in forming the pimples. Benzoyl peroxide can be purchased over the counter, or it can be prescribed in a more concentrated prescription strength. The treatment of acne can be complex. For that reason I would suggest that you start off by scheduling an appointment with your primary care physician. He or she can examine your scalp and determine what you actually have. If your situation looks complicated, then you may warrant a referral to a dermatologist.
