Are pregnancy consultations important?
What do they check for at pregnancy consultations?
A pregnancy consultation is the term we use for the first OBYGN doctor's visit after you find out you are pregnant. A prenatal checkup or consultation is an OBGYN visit for someone who is desiring pregnancy and would like help with the process of getting pregnant and the how to make sure everything is being done to have a healthy pregnancy. Sometimes this prenatal checkup is called a pregnancy consultation. At the prenatal checkup, your OBGYN will discuss your general health and make sure there is no reason you can't be pregnant. You will likely get a prescription for a prenatal vitamin that you can begin taking right away. At your first pregnancy consultation (after you find out your are pregnant), you will have blood drawn to test for immunity to infections, your blood type, and you will have your first ultrasound. The ultrasound is to make sure that the new baby has a heart beat and for the expected date of delivery can be determined. If you are pregnant, or are trying to get pregnant, then I suggest that you schedule an appointment to see your OBGYN. The two of you can discuss the best way for you to have a healthy pregnancy.
