As people went into survival mode, many anxiously turned to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/04\/well\/live\/pandemic-weight-gain.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new coping strategies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 often trading in carrots for the nostalgic comfort of cheese puffs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In general, per one large <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7675243\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 36% of people reported eating less healthily and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7675243\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a044% said they are snacking more<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Additionally, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8743853\/#bib8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">48% of people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported gaining more weight than usual, according to a nation-wide population-based study.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, now, as the worst of the pandemic has let up, more and more people are rethinking their habits and recognizing the importance of prioritizing their health going forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We, at Zocdoc, found some interesting insights in a data analysis of nutrition-related appointment booking from January 2021-February 2021 to January-February 2022, dubbed \u201cThe Year in Nutrition.\u201d Appointments with dietitians increased by 63%, while nutrition consultations and follow-up appointments increased by 31%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19568 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Full-Infographic-1229x672.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Full-Infographic.png 1638w, https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Full-Infographic-614x336.png 614w, https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Full-Infographic-307x168.png 307w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1638px) 100vw, 1638px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of just turning to health influencers or fad diets, patients are turning to health professionals, like dietitians, nutritionists and others, for advice on living healthier lifestyles.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19567 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Kiwi-1229x672.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Kiwi.png 1638w, https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Kiwi-614x336.png 614w, https:\/\/thepapergown.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Papergown_Kiwi-307x168.png 307w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1638px) 100vw, 1638px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Intuitive eating is in<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our data shows that intuitive eating and mindful eating consultation appointments have increased by 175%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re not familiar, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intuitiveeating.org\/definition-of-intuitive-eating\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">intuitive eating<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a new movement that encourages people to learn how to enjoy food mindfully and nurture themselves based on the cues their body gives them, rather than simply dieting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8314309\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many Americans<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resorted to unhealthy eating practices to help cope with the stress of the pandemic. Generally speaking, it\u2019s a defense mechanism our body uses to fight off invaders. But chronic inflammation is a slow burn that can last for years, in response to autoimmune conditions or environmental factors like air pollution.
