To explore how Americans are engaging with skin care professionals, and how that has evolved in the past year, Zocdoc analyzed its aggregated skincare-related appointment <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zocdoc.com\/dermatologists?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc_brand&amp;utm_campaign=10272222875&amp;utm_term=zocdoc%20dermatologist&amp;utm_content=104191869564&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwve2TBhByEiwAaktM1FiignmIuH7p0z2jfDHehaKok9jrCkppJPzvfjbsOttKzDOzriV2ahoCtMIQAvD_BwE\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">booking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> data from January-April 2021 to January-April 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data shows how people are engaging with skincare professionals during a time when skin cancer rates <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gis.cdc.gov\/Cancer\/USCS\/#\/Trends\/1,1,58,1,1,value,22\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are rising<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, people are looking at their own faces <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rush.edu\/news\/how-pandemic-may-have-increased-demand-cosmetic-procedures\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than ever before<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and people \u2013 including an increasingly aging population \u2013 are becoming <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/cosmetic-procedures-pandemic_l_608049e3e4b047b9f8b594e9\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more aware<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of ways they can lessen the effects of the aging process on their skin.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19661 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"808\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/skincare-FILLLE.png 2880w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/skincare-FILLLE-604x672.png 604w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/skincare-FILLLE-302x336.png 302w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/skincare-FILLLE-151x168.png 151w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2880px) 100vw, 2880px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Americans are being proactive about skin health<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From growth in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/forecasts\/1270002\/united-states-revenue-skin-care-market\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cosmetic skin care<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=all&amp;geo=US&amp;q=skin%20exam\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increased interest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in skin exams, Americans are paying more attention than ever to the health and appearance of the body\u2019s biggest organ: From January-April 2021 to January-April 2022, dermatology consultation and follow-up appointments increased by 16%. And while many American patients and dermatologists turned to telehealth as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/health\/conditions-treatments\/info-2020\/telehealth-dermatology-skin-cancer.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">useful dermatology triage tool<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the outset of the pandemic, people have overwhelmingly returned to in-person dermatologic care:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May 2020, the first full month Zocdoc facilitated video visit bookings, 62% of\u00a0 appointments with dermatologists took place in-person\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April 2022, 94% of appointments with dermatologists took place in-person<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>People are partnering with professionals to reduce cancer risk<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skin cancer is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4603424\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and, according to CDC data, skin cancer rates have been trending upward since 1999. With growing awareness that early detection and treatment significantly increases <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skincancer.org\/skin-cancer-information\/skin-cancer-facts\/#:~:text=The%20diagnosis%20and%20treatment%20of,percent%20between%201994%20and%202014.&amp;text=About%2090%20percent%20of%20nonmelanoma,UV)%20radiation%20from%20the%20sun.&amp;text=Basal%20cell%20carcinoma%20(BCC)%20is,common%20form%20of%20skin%20cancer.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">survival rates<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more Americans are adding skin cancer screenings to their must-do list. From January-April 2021 to January-April 2022:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skin cancer screening appointments increased by 23%\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sun damaged skin appointments increased by 20%\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mole screening and removal appointments increased by 15%\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cosmetic procedures are helping people gain confidence<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the outset of the pandemic, video calls have helped many Americans see the faces of their loved ones and effectively connect with colleagues. But the self-view component of these calls also created a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2352647521000137\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">near-constant mirror<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for many. Concurrently, the U.S. is increasingly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/library\/stories\/2018\/03\/graying-america.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an aging nation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and more and more people overall are seeking <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fortunebusinessinsights.com\/anti-aging-cosmetics-market-102768\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">anti-aging skincare products<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rush.edu\/news\/how-pandemic-may-have-increased-demand-cosmetic-procedures\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cosmetic dermatology services<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
