In honor of Father\u2019s Day, we explored how American men are engaging with healthcare professionals, and how that has evolved year over year. To do so, Zocdoc analyzed its aggregated men\u2019s health appointment booking data, along with booking data related to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.usnews.com\/health-care\/patient-advice\/articles\/primary-doctors-for-men\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">common<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> men\u2019s health issues, for the past two years (from June 2020-May 2021 and June 2021-May 2022).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data shows that men, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.clevelandclinic.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2019\/09\/2019-Cleveland-Clinic-MENtion-It-Survey-Results-Overview.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a significant majority<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of whom would rather clean the bathroom or mow the lawn than go to the doctor \u2013 and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ftp.cdc.gov\/pub\/Health_Statistics\/NCHS\/NHIS\/SHS\/2014_SHS_Table_A-18.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">twice as many<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of whom have not seen a doctor in the past two years, compared to women \u2013 are increasingly seeking care. Additionally, while not all men are fathers, whether by choice or circumstance, the data shows that men are increasingly engaging in contraceptive and sexual wellness care.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19715 size-full\" src=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mens-health-photo.png 2880w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mens-health-photo-536x672.png 536w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mens-health-photo-268x336.png 268w, https:\/\/thepapergown.zocdoc.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/mens-health-photo-134x168.png 134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2880px) 100vw, 2880px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Men aren\u2019t skipping a heartbeat with preventive care<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heart disease is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/heartdisease\/men.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leading cause of death<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for men in the United States and according to the CDC, men and women looking to reduce their risk of heart disease should engage in a number of types of screenings and care. Year over year*:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/heartdisease\/aortic_aneurysm.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (AAA) screenings increased by 243%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/diabetes\/library\/features\/diabetes-and-heart.html#:~:text=If%20you%20have%20diabetes%2C%20you,are%20to%20have%20heart%20disease.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diabetes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> consultation and follow-up appointments increased by 34%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/cholesterol\/facts.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cholesterol<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> screening and management appointments increased by 24%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/bloodpressure\/index.htm#:~:text=High%20blood%20pressure%20increases%20the,causes%20of%20death%20for%20Americans.&amp;text=High%20blood%20pressure%20is%20also,not%20have%20it%20under%20control.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blood pressure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> testing and high blood pressure \/ hypertension appointments increased by 21%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>There\u2019s recognition that sexual health is part of overall health<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With searches for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=all&amp;geo=US&amp;q=%2Fm%2F0j33b\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vasectomies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and testosterone replacement therapy rising in recent years, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchhstp\/newsroom\/fact-sheets\/hiv\/PrEP-for-hiv-prevention-in-the-US-factsheet.html#:~:text=Young%20people%20ages%2016%2D24,and%2035%2D44%2C%20respectively.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PrEP adoption growing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 particularly among men \u2013 it\u2019s clear that men are taking charge of their hormonal and sexual wellness. Year over year*:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Testosterone replacement therapy appointments increased by 70%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PrEP (HIV pre-exposure Prophylaxis) appointments increased by 51%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vasectomy\/male sterilization appointments increased by 28%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Disease prevention care is growing<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the National Cancer Institute, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/progressreport.cancer.gov\/detection\/colorectal_cancer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, more than 67% of adults aged 50-75 received a colorectal cancer screening based on the most recent guidelines; the disease is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/colon-rectal-cancer\/about\/key-statistics.html#:~:text=Overall%2C%20the%20lifetime%20risk%20of,risk%20for%20developing%20colorectal%20cancer.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more common<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in men than women. Another disease more common in men than women, with men being <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkinson.org\/Understanding-Parkinsons\/Statistics#:~:text=Approximately%2060%2C000%20Americans%20are%20diagnosed,are%20diagnosed%20before%20age%2050.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1.5 times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more likely to have it than women, is Parkinson\u2019s disease. Screenings for this disease, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/genomics\/hugenet\/casestudy\/parkinson\/parkcoffeecase.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the second most common<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer\u2019s, as well as colorectal and testicular cancer screenings, are on the rise.
