Reflecting the nation\u2019s progress toward closing the cancer screening gap, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between September 2020-September 2021 and September 2021-September 2022:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cancer screening appointments grew by 21%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cancer screening appointments for male patients grew by 15%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cancer screening appointments for female patients grew by 13%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Skin cancer screening appointments grew by 28%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appointments with oncologists grew by 16%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The Ryan Reynolds Effect<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On September 13, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney released <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5sXkIUZEWIo\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an awareness-driving video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Ryan\u2019s first colonoscopy. And the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">much talked about<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> video drove real, potentially life-saving results:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the three weeks following the release of the Ryan Reynolds video, 36% more colonoscopy appointments were booked per day than were booked per day in the 100-day period prior to the video\u2019s release<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colonoscopy appointments grew by 34% between September 2021 and September 2022\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By comparison, colonoscopy appointments grew by a significantly lower 5% between August 2021 and August 2022<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Breast and cervical cancer screenings and prevention are on the upswing<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acr.org\/Advocacy-and-Economics\/Voice-of-Radiology-Blog\/2022\/06\/16\/Impact-of-COVID-19-on-Breast-Cancer-Screening\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breast cancer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> screenings, as well as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8241689\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cervical cancer screenings and HPV vaccinations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, declined significantly during the early stages of the pandemic. Now, people are returning to this crucial cancer screening and other preventative care.
