Never come to this clinic, overrated!
The best part about my experience was the assistants. They were so friendly and patient, but also moved quickly. I could tell they care about the patients. The dentist Dr. Shenasi seemed very in-genuine and she rushed through the entire appointment after I waited so long to be seen. I saw her for a total of maybe 5 minutes and she spoke so quickly I wasn't even sure how to respond when she asked me questions. Barely felt like I had time to think about anything. She didn't really give any explanations. Just told me I needed a bunch of fillings and very very quickly explained why and then sent me on my way. And she isn't fooling anyone with that fake smile. Her smile is almost scary actually. She seemed very overworked, tired and frustrated. In fact she aired her frustrations to the receptionist while I was doing my registration forms at the counter. Very unprofessional. The Periodontist, Dr. Akmal. Was very thorough in his explanations, but came off as sort of a jerk. Basically told me that nothing I thought was wrong, was actually wrong and he made certain faces when I was talking about certain symptoms that I felt were unprofessional and condescending. I understand that I am not a professional and he is the expert, but I know what I go through every day and he shouldn't try to down play that. He had the attitude of "yea yea yea, everyone says this, but it's bogus". Also when I would tell him about a symptom or something that was bothering me, he would go on and on about how people do things incorrectly and that's why this or that. He should have asked me how I was doing things instead of assuming that I'm doing the wrong thing. Just seemed like a jerk and too condescending for my liking. Another thing that really turned me off about this office is the billing method. I really wanted to not believe all of the many terrible reviews that are on the internet about this practice, but they seem to all be true. I made my appointment on Zocdoc for a consultation with a DENTIST. I wanted the dentist to check me out and then refer me to a specialist after doing an examination. Well someone from the office (not the dentist) decided to call and tell me that based on the symptoms I expressed in my zocdoc registration that I needed to see a periodontist. I was hesitant at first and said "well I would prefer the dentist to see me and tell me what I need and how much would that be if I did?" and I was told that based on looking at everything I really needed to see a periodontist and that it’s JUST a consultation and insurance usually covers that. I confirmed that this would only be a consultation and nothing more and the woman on the phone confirmed, so I agreed. Then when I'm finished my visit the woman at the desk starts asking me about a health care savings account and tells me that most likely the insurance will not cover the periodontist consultation. That is TOTALLY different than what was said to me before because now all of a sudden she was almost certain it wouldn't be covered, whereas before there was more certainty than anything that it would be covered. She made the excuse that before they didn't know about my insurance, which was a lie. I registered my insurance information through Zocdoc to make sure that the office had it ahead of time. I also made my appointment weeks in advance so there definitely was time to check on my insurance before I came. I just don’t like the manipulation. Tell me upfront that most times insurance doesn't cover the specialist visit and let me decide if it’s worth it to me to come. She was too pushy and made me reschedule my appointment time as well. Another issue is the very long treatment plan that was quickly shoved at me. I understand that the office was short staffed that day, but the patient should not suffer for it. Actually while I was in the middle of discussing my treatment plan, an assistant came over and just started talking to the receptionist. WHILE I WAS IN MID SENTENCE! No one said excuse me or sorry for the interruption and then when I began questioning things the receptionist did not hide that she was in a rush. Everything was so rushed! My appointment was for 11am yet I wasn't even seen by the doctor until almost 12 pm! And I didn't leave the office until after 1pm! And all I got was a very quick exam that only took each of the doctors 5 minutes or less. Dr. Akmal did speak with me for some time, but that’s the only reason why anything took more than 5 minutes. Going back to the treatment plan...it was absolutely ridiculous. Telling a patient that everything looks fine except for a few minor things and giving them a long treatment bill is not minor! And then she tried to get me to sign and acknowledge the treatments and that ridiculous amount. Absolutely not! I read the reviews and will not get tricked into signing anything here. I had requested that my xrays be sent but I called the office today and found out that Dr. Shenasi never put in the request to have them emailed, although she assured me with that fake, scary smile of hers that it would be done. I now have them thanks to Kate because I requested them again. All in all, this was not a great experience and I most likely will not come here again. I really wanted to like this place because of the weekend hours, which I desperately need. But I will not come to a place that doesn’t even think I’m worth taking the time out for. You will not rush through my appointment, make me wait 30 to 45 minutes after my appointment time to be seen and then over bill me. Terrible way to run a business!
Outstanding oral surgeon. He made me feel at ease and explained everything in a very calm manner. Best experience I've ever had with a dentist, especially considering he was pulling a tooth.
