"After 3 full years of not visiting the dentist due to insurance, compounded by absolute terror and dread, I finally bit the bullet, so to speak, and found Dr. Calamia when my molar filling disintegrated into the sink one morning. Although I initially scheduled just a consultation to address the problem tooth, I ended up also getting full mouth, up-to-date x-rays as well as a cleaning. The x-ray process was a little bothersome because the thing they stick in your mouth is heavy and uncomfortable to hold for a bunch of pictures. Aside from this though, my visit went very well. In the past, dental cleanings have been the stuff of nightmares with the gouging and scraping and endless digging. Dr. Calamia was very gentle, made me comfortable right away, and seemed excited to answer my questions during the exam. She was very patient and explained the dentist jargon to me when I asked what she meant when rattling off things like, "number 7, resin composite, occlusal." Once a source of major anxiety and intimidation in previous dental visits, it's just identifying the tooth, the type of filling and on what surface! Relief! The cleaning was very fast but thorough and she used this instrument that gently vibrates plaque off teeth instead of the usual manual gum stabbing torment. She steered clear of the problem tooth because it's a little sensitive and once the cleaning was over (seriously like a 15 minute process after the polish), she went through a clear breakdown of a potential treatment plan. She was upfront about their policies regarding payment for each procedure and didn't try to push anything on me. I went in thinking I would definitely need a root canal and she confirmed because there is not much support left in the tooth for a simple filling. She politely recommended this and a post and core, but I felt no pressure. To avoid future complications, I'd rather give my tooth as much support as possible now instead of slapping a filling inside only for it to end up in the sink again. I cant remember a time ever having laughed so much with a dentist. The rest of the staff were also very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be going back and highly recommend for patients with dentist anxiety! Overall, really awesome experience."
