Amelia Powelson, PsyD

Psychologist

Professional statement

I believe that understanding the connection between the mind and the body is crucial for fundamental psychological change. Thus, my goal is to help you realize the power of the mind and to discover how our thoughts about ourselves and the world around us impact our feelings, relationships and overall health. By being mindful of how each unique area of our lives impacts us, we can then be truly healthy - both emotionally and physically. In accordance, my specialty in Health Psychology allows me to comprehensively help you cope with the diagnosis of medical conditions and make lifestyle changes. I am also dedicated to working with individuals who have experienced trauma. Gaining a better understanding of the biological and psychological repercussions of trauma helps you get to a healthier, happier place mentally. Each experience involves many emotions. I want to help you navigate those emotions and find your path. I have a great deal of experience working with adults as well as adolescents. I work with teens and their families to increase positive healthy behaviors, reduce stress, improve their mood, and enhance communication skills. Recognizing that each individual is different, I modify my approach to fit your needs.

Very friendly and welcoming for someone who’s nervous about therapy. She made me feel relaxed and calm.

My visit with Amelia was very impressive and I am really glad I met with her. I found her to be warm and genuine, very easy to talk to from the start, and I appreciated the way she got me totalk about why I wanted to see her. I felt like she was very attentive, patient, and caring throughout the session, and never felt rushed in expressing my thoughts. I was happy to find someone that had flexibility to talk on short notice after work, plus the office is quite nice and convenient to get to. I will be returning.

I felt like she kept on looking at the clock. I never got a vibe that she truly cared that I was there, she didn't even say anything during our session. I don't feel like she would help me with my recovery
