He will not spend a lot of time with you, but he is very nice and professional. This was my 3rd time visiting Dr. Ugel for my chronic acne problem. I had small white heads all over my face for about an year. It started during my senior of college and never ceased. I was so depressed. His prescription and treatment helped me to clear my skin. My skin is actually better than what I use to have before my acne problems!
Dr. Ugel continues to be no nonsense in and out in a jiffy M.D. He is the best!!!!
I don't think. I know for a fact I won't be back there. Staff was good, the doctor himself though awful. Stubborn and stuck in his ways. I wanted something specific done but he would not do it. We wanted to drag it out for weeks and multiple visits. Felt like he just wanted to keep billing my insurance.
My visit started right on time and was very efficient (but not rushed), which was very much appreciated, especially in the middle of a work day. I had a mole removed, and was in and out in about 10 minutes. The procedure was painless and the assistant clearly explained to me how to care for the incision site. Hopefully this instance doesn't require any follow-up, but I'd be happy to be seen here again.
One of the best/easiest doctor's visits I've ever had. Highly recommend.
Though I am confident that Dr. Ugel has the expertise to identify concerning skin spots, I did not feel that my exam was thorough enough. He did not check my scalp and other areas that my previous dermatologist would check. When he located a cyst on my skin, he did not suggest treatment options for removing it. When I asked about suggestions for preventing fine lines on my face, he dismissed me by saying that I am "too young" to be worrying about such things.
Excellent Doctor. No nonsense but that is what I like. In and out and he is always on target.
Outstanding. No nonsense, competent doctor and staff.
I was pleased at how quickly I was seen, and at how confident he seemed about the diagnosis. Also appreciated the care and knowledge shown by the nurse practicioner.
The nurse was wonderful. Took my info and issues... when the doc came in, didn't shake my hand...just walked in and sat down and started listening to the nurse repeat my issues. The doc looked at everything quickly and gave the nurse instructions for my prescriptions. The nurse explained all of the prescriptions and how to use them. After I got dressed and was leaving I did find the nurse to ask what exactly was 'wrong' with me since all the doc did was tell her the prescriptions and I didn't really have a clue what might have caused my skin irritations.
He was pretty nice but quite no nonsense. Would have liked a little more time and consideration.
Perfect short and sweet
He's a no nonsense pro. He's seen it all and is quick to diagnose and treat. Gives me great comfodence
I did not have a good experience at Dr. Ugel's office. He prescribed me a medication for acne, despite the fact that I told him I had been on it before and experienced bad yeast infections as a side effect. While I could have been more pushy about this, I felt steamrolled when I tried to express my opinion. Additionally, at the end of the appointment when the nurse practitioner came in and they were discussing when I should come in next, the nurse practitioner suggested a month and then Dr. Ugel looked at my face and said "This is REALLY bad, she should be back in just a few weeks." I do not feel like my acne is REALLY bad. I had run out of the medication I usually use, so I had been unmedicated for a week and a few areas flared up. I felt disrespected by his comment about my acne and condescended to when I tried to explain my history with the medication he prescribed. I left feeling self conscious and like I should have stood up for myself more - as a young woman, I was frustrated at myself for not making sure my voice was heard. Also, the wait was longer than I expected from other reviews, but I didn't mind and the woman working at the front desk explained a few people were sick and that was why. I would like to say something positive about the nurse practitioner who was working alongside Dr. Ugel. I did not catch her name, but I felt like she listened to my concerns and she was the only reason I left the appointment feeling like it was at all worth it. She paid attention when I told her what medication had worked for me in the past (a topical cream) and gave me a prescription to use in addition to the one Dr. Ugel gave me.
He knew exactly what was causing my rash and told me how to treat it. He knows his stuff and that's so rare these days. His colleagues in his office were also friendly and knowledgeable. Very efficient and no fuss.
Professional and excellent bedside manner and staff.
The doctor and staff were nice, but I felt very rushed. The doctor saw me for less than five minutes. He looked at my concern, brushed it off and then rushed out the door. He didn't suggest checking other areas and didn't really take the time to listen to my concerns.
As a clinician, I think Dr. Ugel is fine. I just think he is not as up-to-date on some cosmetic procedures as he should be, I went for an annual screening and he identified a problem and was very clear with my 3 options which I appreciated. Promptly sent me down the hall to the appropriate medical person to make an appt. to have it handled. His manner is very direct which is fine. Exam was thorough and didn't take long.
I have liked Dr ugel. He's older and experienced enough to recognize a problem quickly and scan you efficiently. He doesn't monkey around and have you return multiple times if its not needed.
Just like you imagine a doctor is like. Very helpful, caring, and confident. I would appreciate if there was like an overview in the end. But, super awesome place!
Amazing doctor! He was very quick and straight to the point. Extremely friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I did not have to wait long at all and his staff is also very efficient! Highly recommend Dr. Ugel!
I get shown in to see Dr. Ugel, he does a full-body skin check, and I'm out again in about 5 minutes. His confidence is extremely reassuring, and I appreciate his no-nonsense attitude. If you're looking for a conversational doctor who will try to really get to know you of their own volition, this isn't the guy you want. If you're looking for someone who knows their stuff and wants to be as effective as possible, this is the place to go.
He gave me a prescription that was very effective, but both times I visited him, he kept dodging my questions by repeatedly responding that I should just keep doing what I've been doing and didn't provide much helpful advice. Thus my follow-up visit was a huge waste of money.
I liked very much Doctor.
Dr. ugel was straightforward and attentive to what I needed. I'd recommend him to others.
My appointment was very quick and efficient. Dr. Ugel was polite, but as other reviews have mentioned, he doesn't spend extra time talking to you. I personally like this, as I was back at work before people even really had time to notice I was gone. He still spent enough time with me that I got the treatments I needed/wanted.
I had read previous reviews of Dr. Ugel's brusque manner and was prepared to be underwhelmed. I was pleasantly surprised. When he came in, he shook my hand, addressed me by name, asked me how I'm doing, etc. Within seconds of starting the examination, he was already explaining to me his thoughts and observations. His assistant -- didn't catch her name -- was also helpful and Dr. Ugel took care to mentor her throughout the examination. All in all, appears very competent and significantly warmer than I expected. I will return.
Very direct, thorough and confident. I trust him. I don't need a best friend from a doctor but I do need an expert medical opinion and that's what I got. He was not hurried with me; gave a thorough explanation and rx. Nurse and office staff were great too and it's a metro accessible location, easy walk from Friendship Heights. Strongly recommended.
I think Dr. Ugel is great; he is professional, and gives a thorough examination. And he takes early morning appointments, before 8am -- what doctor's office does that? I have been seeing him for many years and hope he does not retire! I think he is wonderful.
It was a pretty easy visit and covered all the basics but I was more like a client to see in and out rather than a patient.
I've been seeing Dr. Ugel for decades, but recently only every few years because I've had no problems. I found the service this time to be as fine as always, the front desk and the nurse are efficient and the doctor is his thorough, reassuring and completely competent self. I like his style of communication and I am confident he knows exactly what he's doing -- because he always has to date.
Dr. Ugel was very nice, straightforward and efficient.
Very nice bedside manner.
Me gusto la experiencia muy buen servicio y buen personal todos muy amables , se los recomiendo !
I will never visit this Dr again. He was in the room with me for 2mins and 47 seconds. Did not make much eye contact.. He did not give me a chance to fully explain my issues. Kept cutting me off. He didn't even completely look at the lesions I was trying to show him He kept saying that my skin issue was not "cancerous". If course not. I knew that and never thought for a second that it was. I left there feeling cheated. What a waste of a co pay & parking fee. Worst dr appoinment I have ever been to. he needs to go ahead and retire instead of just taking patients money and not helping them.
Quick, no nonsense Doctor. Straight to the point. Just my kind of physician.
Quick and easy, very efficient. Straight to the point.
Dr. Ugel runs his operation his way. If you want a doctor that is going to sit there and talk to you, ask you things beyond your medical needs, bond with you, and become more than a medical professional, don't go to Dr. Ugel. Dr. Ugel is there to diagnose your symptoms and prescribe you medication that he knows will solve your problems. I only gave him 5 stars on bedside manner because I didn't want it to negatively reflect on my overall rating of him. In reality, his bedside manners are nonexistent; he isn't there to chat or get to know you. You tell the nurse your symptoms, Dr. Ugel comes in, asks the nurse what your symptoms are, he looks at your skin and he prescribes you medication. You are in and out in 20 minutes. You will never experience a 45 minute delay sitting in a waiting room because a doctor is delayed do to bedside manner. You have to be ready to work with his structure, or else you'll be somewhat confused. Personally, I love the way he operates. My skin needs medication; I don't need new friends or another primary physician. I don't want to be in a doctors office for an hour and a half, I have things to do. He has always solved my problems. He doesn't know who I am, but I'd rather a doctor be upfront about how his business operates rather than spend 3 minutes outside the door re-learning my file so they can act like they know me and be delayed because they are making small talk.
I really did not have a good experience with this doctor. He came into the office for 30 seconds tops and did not even make eye contact when he spoke with me. As I was asking him something he just left the room and told me to listen to whatever his nurse says. After asking about birth control for hormonal acne, the nurse recommended that I go somewhere else or to a free clinic to get birth control. She prescribed me medication that I am already on, and after letting her know she still insisted I use the same regimen (instead of trying to think of other potential treatments). I do not anticipate going back to this doctor.
Professional, quick, conclusive and great overall.
As a first time patient it was nice to get in on time, have a friendly front desk and be out quickly. I had an annual skin check up. He was very polite and quick but looked at everything I pointed out to him throughly. Will definitely come again and use him for future issues.
I was very impressed at how the doctor was able to look at my teenage son's acne and prescribe a course of treatment right away. The doctor understood that even though my son's pimples aren't severe, that something could be done to make my son feel better about this aspect of puberty. Then the dr looked at the dark spot on my face, and told me right away that it isn't csncerous, and that there are three possible ways to treat it. Of course I took the treatment that involved the quickest solution, which meant that the frozen area could be "frozen".
Excellent on all counts.
Dr. Ugel is the best and most knowledgeable Dermatologist! I hope he never retires.
The doctor is very kind and considerate. He only saw me for 5mins but he addressed all of my concerns. The administrative staffs are a bit cold and they made me feel slightly unwelcomed.
Had appointment at 10am, seen by 10:10. That was great.
He only looked at my skin for 1 minute and gave a diagnosis, and while I was still asking questions he was already walking out the door. Felt very rushed and I couldn't ask all of my questions. The appointment was for 15 minutes but it only lasted about 3 minutes. After 3 weeks of using the medications he prescribed my skin hasn't improved.
If anything, Dr. Ugel works quickly -- he was probably in the room with me for five minutes. That's not a bad thing, though: he covered every concern I had and didn't miss any detail. I definitely recommend him, just don't expect him to spend a lot of time getting to know your hobbies.
I went in to see Dr. Ugel for a mole. He took a sample and I was in and out with no problem. He was no fuss. Short and simple.
Friendly and old fashionably sweet! I like visiting my favorite office, for care and for support with medicine.
He's not a guy that likes to be asked if there are other options. But other than that, he seemed nice.
I was seen by the doctor for about 2 minutes. He ignored everything I said about previous reactions to medications and prescribed things that I had already tried. His quote "This time it will work because we really want it to."
he's hands were shaking a bit. But overall ok.
I waited for more than an hour and he looked at my skin for approx. 5 minutes and left the room. He had the nurse come back in with prescriptions for me to leave with. He asked no questions. I was really upset and he showed no sympathy. The prescriptions were too harsh for my skin and ended up making things worse instead of better. I have since gone to Johns Hopkins where I received completely different care, medications, and more observation.
Staff was pleasNt and wry efficient
He told me what was wrong plain and simple.
I appreciated that I was able to get in and out of the doctor's office pretty fast since I went on my lunch break.
Dr. Ugel asked me my age and told me I looked much younger, like a teenager because of my acne. Isn't that why I'm visiting a dermatologist? Poor bedside manner. Maybe it is okay for his generation, but generally speaking, its not okay to call patients "honey" and "sweetie."
He is good and understanding and guide us in right direction
I think he was efficient with addressing my problems. He seemed like he was rushing me out. He didn't bother to sit down and listen to my concerns or address anymore questions. It was my first visit so we'll see how the rest go
It was a good and really quick visit. They have a very efficient process for treating patients. I got all of the help and information I needed and was still early for work!
Super professional, thorough, and very quick. Perfect!
Very thorough and friendly. I'd recommend Dr. Ugel without hesitation.
Dr. Ugel is an excellent Dermatologist I have been seeing him for 10 years now and I highly recommend him. Elizabeth
he was very professional very kind i will recommend him to my friend and family
Very quick diagnosis. spent 20 minutes waiting 1 minute in the room, although second opinion iwhth another doctor confirmed the diagnosis, wish he had spent some time explaining instead of asking me to speak to the nurse, who did not say a word! Still, I am sure he is very good, just spend little mroe time with the patient. Also gave me some steroid ointment which didnt make much difference.
Dr. Ugel is super kind and very quick, and his nurse was able to answer all my questions. I had been putting off seeing a doctor for years about my problem and I was very embarrassed but they were both so nice! I'm thrilled to have found this office and will stick with them.
Great appointment! The entire skin screening took about 2 minutes.
Very Good & very professional
This doctor and office were great!
fast, professional with just the right amount of warmth....
Very quick, efficient visit. I was scheduled for 9am and was out by 9:30. The doctor is very pleasant and gets right to business. Highly recommend.
His bedside manor was ok, but immediately diagnosed the problem and had a treatment. Clearly explained how the dosage worked and some tips to make me feel better in the meantime. Very knowledgable!
Very nice man an he was so warm !
Very Good Doctor, and very professional.
Very caring Doctor. I had a thorough examination and his advice is very valuable. The nurse and the staff were very courteous.
He is incredibly friendly and quick. He seems seasoned and confident in his diagnosis which is reassuring as a patient. I have my follow up in 6 weeks so I can't speak to his effectiveness yet, but I am very optimistic moving forward.
The fastest I have ever been seen by a doctor after arriving. No-nonsense, what are you here for and let's fix it. I personally like that style, but if you are looking for warm and fuzzies and conversation, this may not be the place for you.
Dr. Ugel is very matter of fact, but obviously a very good doctor. He looked at my problem, quickly treated it and sent me on my way. I was very satisfied.
He was friendly and quick. He seemed very certain about his diagnosis but the problem is not going to be alleviated for some time. I can't say I can recommend him only because I have no way of knowing how accurate his predictions are until these next couple months come to pass.
great trust in dr. ugel.
Very brief encounter, not much history was asked. The doctor seemed to be rushing.
If you prefer an old fashioned doctor who is not looking for problems, then Dr. Ugel is the doctor for you. If you prefer someone more thorough, you might want to try someone else. The staff was very nice and extremely professional, so five stars for them!
He was very professional quick to the point and his team was excellent and extremely helpful
Dr. Ugel and his staff was very kind. He answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable and well educated regarding his assessment. Would highly recommend!
Fixed my problem after other doctors misdiagnosed it. Would recommend.
Had an 8:15 am appointment and everything went smoothly. Was a first-time patient and there was two pages of the standard info to fill out. He was very efficient in making his diagnosis and treatment. Was not very talkative but was polite. Scheduled next appointment with their office admin, got a card reminder, do not have email reminders.
Knowledgeable and straight to the point. No waiting time. Perfect
I have been seeing Dr. Ugel for years. He is very organized, efficient and--so far--effective. He has identified and dealt successfully with a variety of issues.
I liked Dr. Ugel because he gets right to the point. I was in and out of his office within about thirty minutes.
Him and his staff was very professional, quick and answered all of my concerns.
I was in and out quickly. The nurse does spend more time with you than he does but both Dr. Ugel and the nurse were knowledgeable and friendly. The nurse was open to questions as well.
Let me start by saying that i dont think I've ever left a negarive reciew for anyone. That's how disappointed I was with this visit. I traveled over an hour for my appointment with Dr. Ugel, and he spent literally less than 5 minutes in the room with me. He didn't ask any questions, made the quickest diagnosis I've ever seen and got up to leave before telling me how to use the prescription, what I should expect.. Etc. We'll see how the prescription works, but based on the amount of time he spent writing it, I'd be surprised to see positive results.
Professional and straight to the point.
Professional, smart, knows how to prescribe, very comfortable to be around.
I did not like that the receptionist told me that my appointment was at 8:30 when I showed up at 7:20 for my 7:30 appointment. I explained that I made my appointment through ZocDoc and showed her the reminder. Thought she would appreciate the feedback in case there was some disconnect but felt she did not. Maybe it is not busy at 7:30 but a patient coming in at 10:30 may not be so easily accommodated in schedules. Ugel, as usual, is GREAT! I recommend him all the time. He is timely, matter of fact with treatment, and I love the fact that he accommodates early morning appointments.
nice guy, nice office and staff, great skin specialist works with him.
Very vague and visit was less than 2min, second opionio is needed or maybe a doctor who specializes with people of color
Good, quick, effective. Very minor scope however.
Without a doubt the worst doctor I have ever been to.
Dr. Ugel is fantastic, along with his staff. Very cordial and the most efficient doctor's office I've ever experience. Kudos to you and your team! Thank you! Best - Megan
I liked him and will follow up with him in 3 monts as suggested..he seems smart, concerned and focused on real problems...
Great visit. Doctor was very imformative
Very efficient team. And everyone is nice. Dr. Ugel will not win any awards in the charm dept, but he gets you in and out. Results TBD
Good doctor, good experience. Would definitely recommend.
I had to wait for a bit until he could see me, but it was a short sweet visit. I liked how quick it was since I had other places to be!
I went to Dr. Ugel for a cyst on my back that hadn't cleared up for about six months. He looked at it for 2 seconds, agreed it was a cyst and told me that it was best to start with something topical before trying other methods. Then he said "do whatever my nurse tells you" and left the room. If his nurse would have actually been knowledgeable and listened to the conversation this might have been okay. But when I asked her what "topical something" I was supposed to use, she looked at me confused (clearly she hadn't been listening to the meager 20 words the doctor said to me), gave me samples of neosporin, and said that if I wanted it removed I'd have to see a plastic surgeon. While the doctor was perfectly nice and seemed knowledgeable, I will not be returning to Dr. Ugel since he apparently thinks it's acceptable to delegate his responsibilities to a nurse who knows less about my condition than I was able to learn from a five minute google search. This visit was a waste of my time and money. You should definitely steer clear of this office and go to a different dermatologist if you actually want a solution to your problem.
Very good obviously experienced doctor. He also checked out a couple of moles on my granddaughter and one will have to be removed. Very good I went to see him and took my granddaughter.
Dr. Ugel was quite to the point. His assessment was straightforward and professionally.
Excellent in general!
Everything was fine, but no part of the visit made me want to visit this office regularly. The receptionists and nurses did their jobs effectively, but I wouldn't call them warm or friendly. Dr. Ugel was also fine, but I was uncomfortable with the fact that he walked in and immediately started touching my face without washing his hands first. Overall, I'll probably go back for my follow up visit, but I don't think I'll visit this office for any future dermatological concerns.
Friendly, straight forward, no nonsense visit. Highly recommended.
I needed to have a spot on my back, and figured I would do a whole body check at the same time. Once in the room, I was in and out within 5 minutes. I was thoroughly checked, but didn't have to sit and wait for forever in the room. Dr. Ugel was great and I'll be going back in a year!
Got in quickly, and Dr. Ugel was very professional and quick. Nice guy too!
Dr. Ugel was great. He was quick, knowledgable and made me feel comfortable.
He is excellent.
Quick in and out appointment. Dr. Ugel and staff were great.
Very professional and knowledgable.
Friendly, efficient, professional
he was too fast examining my skin. And he didn't tell me the thing on my face is it acne or something else.
Great doctor. Answered questions only when prompted. So have your questions ready.
Dr. Ugel was very friendly and efficient. From check in to being back in my car was about 45 mins. Sorry to sound like all the other reviews but he's just that good!
I only saw Dr. Ugel for about 5 min, but he seemed confident in his diagnosis. He and the staff were very friendly.
Very knowledgeable, he knew right away just by looking at my skin what it was, and recommended the prescription promptly. Extremely knowledgeable!
Wayyyy too short!
He spent 1 minute with me and he has no concerns about my questions
Dr. Ugel is what I would call old school. He did a full body skin check on me which I have been getting once a year. This was my first time with him. He did it so quickly I was left feeling like this guy is that good or this guy missed something. Hopefully he's that good!
Very quick appointment, and I wish I had prepared a longer list of things for him to look at. Go in with a written-down laundry list to best make use of your time! Of the two recommendations I asked for, one was underwhelming (use Vaseline for sensitive dry skin) and one was for a laser procedure. The latter diagnosis was worth paying for -- I was definitely given new information about what I asked him to examine.
Doctor appears to know very well his field. Overall happy to have scheduled appointment with him.
Very quick. Dr. Ugel was great, and the staff was very efficient and professional. It was my first visit and after filling out a brief questionnaire, I was seen within 5 minutes. I was in the office at 8:50 and out by 9:25.
Dr. Ugel was very professional. My appointment went smoothly and I would visit his office again in the future.
Office staff were all super friendly, I was seen on time, was in and out of the office, yet the appointment wasn't rushed. Doc had great bedside manner, answered questions and was very thorough. 7am appointment! Doesn't get better than that.
I felt every aspect of my visit was fantastic.
Really great. I'm definitely going back to him if ever a need.
Very courteous, and knew what the problem was, and recommended what to do...Very happy with this doctor.
Fast and professional.
Worse doctor ever!! would never see him again! terrible bedside manner. He didnt even take a look the spot before he resumed to treat the area, no warnings about side effects. His vision doens't seem to be working well which is important for a Dermatologist.
Helpful; already seeing improvements and it's only been one day.
he was prompt and efficient. for a 10 minute appointment, we interacted for about 2 minutes. decent guy
treatment was good!!i got resolved of the problem in a week...
I found him to be a reassuring person.
Excellent, polite service at Reception Desk. One outstanding gesture I appreciated: Doctor Ugel addressed me by my latst name. The tendency and arrogance of many medical doctors today is to initially address a patient by his/her first name. This is unprofessional and ticks me off. They have no idea whether I want to be called by my first name; what titles, degrees, or profession position I hold. My only negative observation was that I would like to have known more about how/why a situation like growth of moles on the skin occur. Is it hereditary? Dietary? Etc. Ambassador Shirley E. Barnes, Esq.
The office is highly organized and efficient; I saw Dr. Ugel within 10 minutes of arriving. He prescribed a cream that has effectively controlled my rosacea. On top of it all, he's very nice, and the staff is great. Would definitely recommend.
