Qualifications and Experience
Dr. Reader is a board certified psychiatrist with The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and completed her psychiatry residency training at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Reader finished her transitional internship at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Medical School in Bethesda, Maryland as an officer in the USAF. Dr. Reader holds a B.A. with honors and distinction in Biology from San Diego State University in San Diego, California.
Dr. Reader is a clinical assistant professor in the Departments of Psychiatry at both George Washington University and Georgetown University. She previously worked as a psychiatrist at the Student Health Services at George Washington University and enjoys working with the young adult and college student population, working with teenagers and young adults ages 16 and older.
In addition, while at Georgetown Hospital, Dr. Reader completed training during residency in reproductive psychiatry and women's mental health issues. Including mental health treatment considerations prior to conception, medications during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, postpartum depression, as well as pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Dr. Reader also has extensive experience as a community psychiatrist working with the severely and chronically mentally ill and those underserved, with limited access to mental health care.
Dr. Reader became interested in psychiatry because of her interests in psychopharmacology as well as knowing a patient's story at a deeper level. Her goal is to help her patients achieve mental health stability, their personal best level of functioning, and improve their overall quality of life.
