Qualifications and Experience
Gastroenterologist, Dr. Ellie Afghani’s areas of expertise includes pancreatic diseases, small bowel disease, including capsule endoscopies, abdominal pain, colitis, colorectal cancer screening, constipation, diarrhea, GERD, hepatitis/ abnormal hepatic function tests, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, upper endoscopies and colonoscopies. She has a special interest and expertise in pancreatic disease, including acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, and pancreatic cancer including screening high risk patients for pancreatic cancer. Upon completing her internal medicine training at the University of California Irvine Medical Center (with an additional year as chief resident), Dr. Afghani completed her fellowship in gastroenterology as well as an advanced fellowship in medical pancreatology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Afghani is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and also a member of several academic societies. She is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Afghani is participating in several research projects in Cedars Sinai division of pancreatico-biliary diseases. She has extensive research in the field of gastroenterology, with publications in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, as well as presentations at national meetings.
