About Dr. Hena Aiesha Khaja

Dr. Khaja was born and raised in the Houston area. She has extensive training in ophthalmic disease and ocular surgery. She has done recent research on dangling lens phacoemulsification, a novel technique for phacoemulsification and lens implantation and on acute maculopathy. She has also conducted extensive performance analysis of various vitreoretinal instruments. Dr. Khaja has recently completed over 130 cataract extractions including toric IOL’s, numerous YAG capsulotomies, and nearly 200 intravitreal injections, among other procedures, during her residency program at the University of Cincinnati. As chief resident, she presented idiopathic retinal phlebitis, lupus retinopathy, and cancer-associated retinopathy at the university’s grand rounds forum. Earlier training included a Transitional year program at the University of Texas, Houston, where Dr. Khaja trained in the basics of general medicine, pediatrics and surgery in emergency, outpatient and inpatient settings. Dr. Khaja also attended the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, earning honors in third year clerkships in surgery, ophthalmology, and obstetrics/gynecology. While at the Mayo Clinic, she presented clinical research on trabectome ablation arc, and research on the incidence and clinical characteristics of epiretinal membranes in children. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Texas Magna Cum Laude, with a major in Human Biology with a focus on Pathogenesis and Immunity, and a minor in Business.
