Dr. Karen M. Sutton is an Attending Physician at Yale New Haven Hospital and an Assistant Professor at Yale University School of Medicine.
She incorporates both her extensive academic experience in orthopaedic surgery and her athletic accomplishments when treating her patients. She completed her undergraduate experience at Duke University, her medical school at the University of Maryland, her residency at Yale, and her fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University. She also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. During her fellowship she assisted in the orthopaedic care of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins and the New England Revolution.
She played lacrosse at Duke University where she was a Division I Academic All-American, three-time captain and reached the Final Four during her last year.
Most recently, she is the team physician for United States Lacrosse, an ambassador for ESPN-W, and the surgical director of the Yale Athletic Center of Excellence. She currently treats patients with sports-related injuries (shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle) and works extensively in female athletic conditions. She is specifically interested in anterior cruciate ligament rupture prevention in female athletes. Her other research endeavors include biomechanics work on the knee and ankle and clinical evaluation of “at-risk” positions of the knee.
