Dr. Barrett-Avendano was born and raised just North of Los Angeles, and attended the University of California, Santa Cruz for her undergraduate studies. Her interests were to become a renaissance woman. She majored in psychobiology, but studied romantic poetry, art history, non-western music and organic chemistry. She was very active in the Feminist women’s health Center in Santa Cruz and was a student volunteer in the University’s women’s health clinics.

She then met and married John Andro Avendano, painter and sculptor. (His work is on the office walls.) They have a daughter with a penchant toward art and singing.

This program emphasized pelvic surgery and high risk obstetrics. Her experience in New York began her continuing interest in pelvic surgery that continues today.
Upon completion of her ob/gyn residency, Dr. Barrett-Avendano moved to Seattle where she has practiced her base philosophy of rest, nutrition, exercise as well as traditional medical care. She has pioneered one particular type of minimally invasive bladder leakage surgery at Overlake hospital. She is also the only physician on the Eastside who performs in office endometrial ablation. …
