Qualifications and Experience
Dr. Jew is proud to have grown up in San Francisco’s Chinatown and ultimately return to serve the local community. After completing his K-12 studies locally (Jean Parker Elementary, Marina Middle School, and Lowell High School), Dr. Jew obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from UC Berkeley and his Doctorate of Optometry (O.D.) degree from the Southern California College of Optometry (a.k.a. SCCO; now a division of Marshall B. Ketchum University). In addition to providing quality patient care, Dr. Jew had the honor of serving as President, Secretary, and Treasurer of his optometric class at SCCO. Dr. Jew completed externships at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, the David Grant Medical Center (within Travis Air Force Base), and at the Wellish Vision Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since returning to Northern California, Dr. Jew has provided optometric care to a diverse patient base in the San Francisco Bay Area. Of note, Dr. Jew saw and managed thousands of pre and post-op refractive surgery (LASIK & PRK) patients during an extended time at ScottHyver Visioncare, Inc. Dr. Jew has also had LASIK performed on his own eyes. Nevertheless, laser refractive surgery is not appropriate nor safe for everyone to have. Dr. Jew is more than happy to discuss the risks and benefits of LASIK/PRK surgery with you and help you decide if it addresses your personal and occupational visual needs and goals. Along with his staff, Dr. Jew is fluent in English and Chinese and looks forward to helping you and your family and friends achieve and maintain clear vision and optimal ocular health. Whether you are a working professional, stay at home parent, student, local resident, or even just in town for a brief stay, we look forward to seeing you!

I was seen very promptly by Dr. Jew and his staff. He was friendly, courteous, and very helpfully articulated each step of the exam. He also looked over my retinal imaging scans with me at the end of the exam, and explained how to interpret those scans in a highly illuminating way. He made sure to ask if I had any questions at various points, and took the time to answer them thoroughly. The office is located in the heart of Chinatown, and though the building lobby and elevator are slightly dingy, Dr. Jew's office itself was clean and comfortable.
Did not rush, took time to listen and explain what he was doing and the findings. Followup emails and calls, which no one ever does and was greatly appreciated to show he cares. Friendly and efficient assistants.
Great practice! Everything is perfectly run from top to bottom.
Dr. Jew was attentive, thoughtful, and professional. On top of that, his friendliness made the visit a pleasure.
I've seen Ken twice, and both times, I've been impressed by the thoroughness of his eye exams, his patience in answering my questions, and his efforts to go above and beyond in service. Ken not only conducts the usual exams (e.g., eye charts, eye pressure "puffer" test, farm house, peripheral vision, photograph of eyes), but he will spend extra time on each to make sure he has the data he needs. My General Eye Consultation appointment lasted 1.5 hours because I had so many questions and he patiently answered them all. He is helping me swap my extra contact lenses into a new prescription, and is fair and accommodating in his pricing. Ken has a friendly, relatively new office - I would recommend him to those looking for a general eye doctor!
Dr. Jew was wonderful - knowledgeable, kind, informative, patient, clear and easy to understand and made the whole experience pleasant. His staff is incredibly nice, professional and friendly. I am so happy I chose Dr. Jew!
Dr. Jew is helpful, kind, and thorough. Love that in a doctor!
Everything was great, no complaints here.
Dr. Ken and his staff were so wonderful! They were incredibly friendly, accommodating and made me feel special/ like a human being. (Crazy that that's a novelty, eh?) His staff event spent a good 20 minutes trying to figure out how I could save the most money with my healthcare plan. Would recommend them to the highest!
Great staff and doctor who explained every step of the process.
Excellent doctor. Great bedside manner. Will talk you through everything.
Very friendly and thorough
Excellent doctor. Easy to talk to. Answered all my questions and explained what he was doing very well. His staff was also very helpful.
Great experience overall, took the time to inform me every part of the process and took the time to explain all the options available to me after the annual checkup in regard to glasses, contacts, and Lasik. Very personable and had a great time chatting with him throughout the whole checkup.
I saw Dr. Jew less than 24 hours ago and have already gone out of my way to refer him and his office to 5+ people. It was a really awesome experience, from the really cool office to my time with Dr. Jew. He was incredibly thorough which is really important to me, and I felt like he really checked for all symptoms in a really caring and specific way. Would recommend 10 times over!
Dr. Jew and his staff were pleasant and accommodating. I went in for a routine, annual eye exam. My eye health hadn't changed, but Dr. Jew took the time to explain my diagnosis (the same one I've had for years) in a way that the other optometrists haven't.
Dr. Jew is fantastic. Very smart, extremely professional, and fantastic bedside manner. He explains what he's doing and why. He's all the things you want from a doctor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to any of my friends or family.
Dr. Jew was super friendly and was full of great insights. Probably the most comprehensive eye exam I've ever had and he took really good care of me.
Office staff was efficient and pleasant. Office was clean and easy to get to with great office hours to choose from. Dr Jew was professional, engaging and thorough. He offers a unique set of eye products that are hard to find. I highly recommend Dr Jew for all of you eye care needs.
Dr. Kenneth Jew and his staff were very kind, professional and friendly! The office is also quite new, so everything was clean and updated. I went to them for my annual exam (I wear both glasses and contact lenses), and I was a little nervous because I had been seeing the same optometrist for the last 15 years, but they made the entire exam painless and quick. Dr. Jew even allowed me to schedule my dilation for another day because I had plans to go to the beach later that afternoon, which would have been hard on my eyes with the dilation. He addressed all of the issues I had been having with my Acuvue 2 contact lenses lately, and I left the office with samples of newer lenses to try out. I have great trust and confidence in Dr. Jew and his office (I'm even going to discuss getting LASIK as Dr. Jew has experience in that field as well) , and will definitely be scheduling my follow up appointment!
Scratched my right cornea. Booked appmt on app and was seen two hours later...on a Saturday...Awesome! Got a very thorough exam, he explained everything well and even gave me a coupon that reduced the cost of my Rx eye drops.
Dr. Jew was amazingly patient and helpful throughout the entire process.
I had a great experience with Dr. Jew! Here's what made it great: - flexible: I had to reschedule my appointment several times, and Dr. Jew's office was very patient and helpful throughout the process - convenient: the office is located in China Town, which super close to my office in the financial district - detailed: Dr. Jew put a lot of care into my eye exam AND recommended that I try a new kind of lenses a few days after I had left my appointment. It was great to have options! - friendly: the entire staff is very friendly, professional, and easy to talk to - service-oriented: Dr. Jew's office found a rebate for my lenses, which saved me a considerable amount of money. They also put a ton of work into gathering the necessary rebate paperwork AND had it waiting for me when I went by to pick up my lenses. Highly recommend!
