Qualifications and Experience
Dr. Neil Dunleavy began his medical training at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He graduated with honors before earning his Doctor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Dunleavy completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City, where he received the Department Research Award for his work on cartilage engineering performed at The Columbia University Department of Biomedical Engineering. He then went on to obtain additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he trained in the most advanced, minimally invasive techniques for surgery of the hip, shoulder and knee. Dr. Dunleavy specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, advanced arthroscopic hip labrum repairs, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), endoscopic hip bursectomy, “all-inside” arthroscopy-assisted ACL reconstruction, multiligament knee reconstruction, meniscus preservation, cartilage preservation and reconstruction techniques, microfracture, osteochondral autograft and allograft transfer in the knee, shoulder impingement, arthroscopic biceps tenodesis, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder labrum repair, tendinopathy, fracture care, and general orthopaedic surgery. He uses musculoskeletal ultrasound for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, and prefers using the ultrasound to guide most injections of the hip. “I enjoy offering new, minimally-invasive arthroscopic techniques for knee, shoulder and hip pain – particularly for patients with pain in their hips. Historically, hip preservation surgery involved large incisions and long recovery times. Now we are often able to perform arthroscopic hip surgery through small incisions to reduce pain, improve function and preserve the cartilage of the hip.” While at the University of Chicago, Dr. Dunleavy assisted and trained under the team physicians for the NFL Chicago Bears. He also served as a team physician for the MLS Chicago Fire soccer team, University of Chicago sports teams, and local high school football teams. Dr. Dunleavy prefers a conservative approach to treating his patients. “When possible, I encourage my patients to explore nonsurgical treatment methods prior to considering surgery, and in most cases non-operative measures are successful. However, if pain persists, we are trained to provide the latest minimally-invasive techniques available.” Dr. Dunleavy is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. In his spare time, Dr. Dunleavy is an avid sports fan, and enjoys baseball, golf and tennis. Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his wife and baby daughter.

Once i got in a room and gave my reason for my visit i was sent for x-rays, got back to the room and i waited over 45 minutes for my first talk with the doctor... they were VERY BUSY... x-rays took less than 5 mins...
Easy to talk to, clear and concise in his work up and diagnosis.
Very knowledgeable, excellent Doctor. I would highly recommend him
Dr. Dunleavy was excellent! Very professional and knowledgeable! He explained everything very well and told me about each step and what to expect in the after math! I will definitely use him again and highly recommend him!
I was very pleased with my visit.
Very good experience with him and his staff. He listened to my issues and gave me a good solution.
He is very sweet and listens to me. He tries to make the injections as tolerable as possible. Super great guy!
Dr. Dunleavy was awesome. I came in due to some pain in my rear delt (shoulder). He put me through some range-of-motion tests to figure out exactly which part of the shoulder the pain was coming from. He gave me what I needed to recover and also set up a future game plan for physical therapy to improve my workouts and aches overall. I weigh train 6-7 days a week so having a doctor who can keep me in top shape from joint and ligament perspective is just what I needed. Knowledgeable and caring, I will definitely continue coming to him.
Very nice and knowledgeable about my problems. He is honest and gave me all my options. I would definitely recommend him for joint problems.
this is the first doctor I hnave seen since moving to Texas from California 3 weeks ago. Wow what a difference. Virtually no wait time, xrays done right in the office and the doctor was prompt, efficient and courteous. I will definitely be back if I have further problems.
good first visit... a little long but I would wait for there service. no complaints
We arrived a little early and since we had completed the pre-registration forms online, they immediately took me in.
My appointments was at 8 and didn't see Dr until about 9:30. The wait time for new patients was long. I noticed patients after me were seen in and out. I became frustrated, but manage to smile through it all.
Everything went well, as expected. I was in for a general ortho. situation, not for surgery, so I can not rate the physician on that. I saw no issues. I was called back into the treatment room promptly, but waited over an hour to actually see the doctor. Of course, I have waited longer at other establishments. Overall, everyone was professional. I liked the doctor and think his assessment was accurate. I appreciated them extending an appointment to me on short notice. The folks in x-ray were professional and kind.
The wait was more than I expected. I had an 8:15 am appointment and didn't get called to the back until after 8:45 am.
Doc Dunleavy was an extremely easy doctor to get along with, listened to my concerns, and gave me options instead of telling me what I needed to do. He actually seems to care about the well being of patients, rather than pushing meds or surgery, he pushes health.
Everything was great.
he explains everything in detail very understanding.
the wait time was horrible did not see or forgot to see cd on mri on rotory cuff damage till i told them
Great experience, I'm looking forward to working with him.
He's a great doctor. Explained things very well. Very personable. Very attentive.
pain is subsiding after the shots!!!
Dr. Dunleavy was awesome! But the staff could have been friendlier. For example, I had already spoken with the receptionist and a medical technician, but the doctor was the first one to actually say "Hello, how are you?" The x-ray technician was also very nice. The building and exam room were a bit run down, and you needed a key to use the restroom. Also, the place was located in a less than desirable part of town, I would prefer to have my surgery in The Woodlands.
Dr dunleavy was very professional Put me at ease right away as this was my first visit with him. Even though I had a long wait, I would see this doctor again
Front desk very efficient. Little waiting time.
