Dr. Balzora was hasty and not very thorough in her approach. She quickly came to a conclusion that was contrary to information I had provided about previous tests and treatments. She did not provide a follow up plan or approach.
Dr. Balzora seemed distracted, eager to get through the 10 minutes she spent talking with me, and felt unthorough and uninterested. Went twice, hoped the the followup would be better but it was an absolute horrible experience. Would never recommend this doctor or clinic as there is no 'care' in this healthcare facility.
I like her bedside manner. She takes her time with you and asks the right questions. Her concern seems genuine. She has a calming aura and she has a light and easy sense of humor. Not too much of any one characteristic, not overbearing. Makes you feel at ease. Also, the young lady who was at the front desk when I came in was exceptionally on point, knew her stuff, clear, concise, patient, friendly, not pushy or rushed, was able to smile, not cold and unapproachable, neat appearance, i.e., very professional! Overall, great experience!!
Dr. Balzora is thorough, however not the warmest when it comes to bedside manner. Wait time was excellent given a mid-day appointment.
My visit with Dr. Balzora was very professional. She is very nice and concerned. She made me feel very comfortable. I will be returning.
Dr. Balzora is friendly, knowledgeable and empathetic.
Dr. Balzora demonstrated professionalism and the ability to relate to patient's concerns. Her response to patient's description of complaints was knowledgeable and insightful. The waiting area was nicely decorated and generally appealing. The exam rooms were clean, comfortable, and well equipped. Staff was pleasant and helpful.
Very smart and professional GI. One of the few female GI's in NYC.
I did not find Dr. Balzora to be friendly.
Dr. Balzora was incredibly kind and knowledgable. She took her time to get to know me and was very thorough in her questions, diagnoses and recommendations. I look forward to seeing her again and would highly recommend her to anyone.
Great Doctor, with a pleasant and professional manner. She took the time to ask questions and didn't rush me through.
She was very prompted. She was able to address my issues.
Dr. Balzora is super friendly and makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. I highly recommend her!
Sophie was amazing. Her front office was terrible.
Great bedside manner-thorough, professional and kind. Asked questions and listened carefully. The office staff were curteous and efficient.
Was 25 minutes early and seen in about 2 minutes!! The front desk processed my paperwork immediately (I had filled out all the docs ahead of time which helped). Doctor had fantastic bed side manner, communicated clearly and empathically and gave concise and helpful guidance. She offered specific and clear ideas for next steps and offered me options where appropriate. Probably the best health experience - ever. Why can't every medical experience be like this?!
did not tell me anything I did not already know. waste of time.
Dr. Balzora was very welcoming and quick-to-the-point.
She is so pleasant and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions clearly and made the conversation fun :-). First time meeting her, & I am giving my full trust on her . Wish all doctors are like her.
Dr. Balzora was great! Excellent bedside manner and extremely knowledgable!
She was awesome! Very thorough, friendly and knew her stuff!
Based on the reviews, I expected Dr. Balzora to be extremely attentive and nice, but was a somewhat disappointed. She seemed a little under the weather herself so that may have been the reason she wasn't super pleasant, but I just felt like another patient and didn't get the personal care I was hoping for. I mostly won't go back due to the lack of professionalism from the receptionist/nursing staff. They were a little too loud and obnoxious with each other and disruptive in the waiting room. Secondly, I was supposed to hear back about two different lab results but they took much longer than expected to get back to me, and only gave me 1 of the results. They said they can't even find my other paperwork now. All of that combined, it's not worth the trouble to return.
Excellent bed side manners, attentive and caring. She also explains very clearly and has a nice sense of humour.
She is understanding and listens to what you are experiencing. One of the things that I really respect about her is she won't suggest having test that aren't needed.
I really enjoyed Dr. Balzora. Seeing a Gastroenterologist can mean embarrassing descriptions of the issues as well as uncomfortable exams. Dr. Balzora made me feel totally relaxed and comfortable so that I was able to tell her everything that was going on.
I was very pleased and satisfied with Dr. Balzora. She was thorough, very pleasant in her demeanor and very professional. The only down side was that she apparently faxed to Express scripts for medication and I've yet to receive it. I hope she can resend the script for omeprizole.
She got right to the point in a very efficient and helpful way, with a good sense of humor.
Perfect. Professional, friendly staff; no wait time; and a very helpful visit with Dr. Balzora. Dr. Balzora was thorough, zeroed in on a better treatment plan, and had a wonderful bedside manner.
Professional and courteous staff, something that has been incredibly hard for me to find in NYC.
Dr. Balzora is the absolute best! Professional and has a wonderful bedside manner.
This was my first visit with Dr Balzora and she carefully went through my health history as well as over the symptoms that brought me to the office. She outlined the possible diagnoses and carefully explained next steps. Very highly recommended.
Dr. Balzora was great at explaining things to me and made me feel comfortable. I will definitely be back!
Professional and personable.
Dr. Balzora was very professional and courteous. I highly recommend her to anyone!
Very pleased. She addressed each of my issues and communicated information to me in a very professional, caring way. I am so glad I chose to see her!
Dr. Balzora was fantastic. I never felt rushed, she had great bedside manner, was incredibly thorough and I highly recommend her!
Went very well..
Doctor Balzora is nice, listens carefully and explains everything very well. She does not try to "sell" you anything and does not push surgery if other solutions can be tried first. She's ideal for foreigners as she studied abroad and is very patient with people not speaking a perfect english.
I visited Dr. Balzora for the first time two years ago. I'm still seeing her and consider her to be the best doctor I could possibly have. She responds immediately (almost always same day), keeps my personal considerations in mind (cost of care and work hours), and is extremely knowledgable in her field. In 10 years of chronic illness I have found no one better.
Seeing Dr. Balzora was a great experience. When you have stomach issues, you just want to know what exactly what's going on. You want to feel better. Dr. Balzora put me at ease and was very knowledgable. She listened and nothing was rushed. The last GI I saw I was in his office shorter than I waited, so I was used to that. I started to get my things and she said, "oh we're not done. I need to examine you". I have an anxiety disorder, and she understood my concerns and worries without being condescending or judgemental . It's nice to trust your doctor
I can't say enough nice things about this Dr and my experience with her and the office. I look forward to my next visit.
Very nice doctor who was empathetic and was able to answer my questions. Also the office is quite new and pleasant.
Dr. Balzora was very thoughtful and took her time with me, answered all my questions and was open to my desire for alternative treatments.
I would highly recommend Dr. Balzora. The office was open, clean, and airy. The nurses were friendly and understanding. Dr. Balzora seemed genuinely interested in helping me get to the bottom of my problem, which I appreciated a great deal. Her office also utilized a convenient online program called MyChart which will make following up with lab results and getting in touch with her office in the future much easier.
She was professional, kind and detailed. I will continue to go to her.
Knowledgeable and friendly!
It was great!!!
Dr. Balzora had all the qualities that I look for in a doctor - she was careful, patient, she listened - she was truly interested in hearing about my experience and helping me to figure out what was going on. She listened and gave me time to ask questions, I never felt rushed, and she shared her expertise and critical thinking and troubleshooting skills freely. She is a model for all doctors to aspire to.
I liked her a lot, confident, straight to the point, no BS, quick visit, nice, plan to cure. Will recommend.
I would not bother going to her if you have gluten sensitivity or some form of IBS. She may be able to make suggestions on how to treat your symptoms, but it is unlikely that she will have any ideas on how to get to the root of the problem. For the past year I have experienced a dramatic change in my digestive system - with gas, bloating, diarrhea, morning nausea (during flare-ups which can last a few weeks), worse symptoms after sleep (at any time of day or night). I also have had a spate of joint and tendon problems (which suggests mineral malabsorption) including a frozen shoulder, repeated plantar faciitis, and most recently non-specific knee pain (xrays ruled out arthritis). Otherwise, I am a very healthy and active 55 yr old female, who has NEVER had any digestive problems other than giardia picked up during my extensive travel to the Dominican Republic. Eliminating gluten from my diet dramatically helped my symptoms for a while, but did not eliminate them. I get "flare-ups" that are pretty scary, because I am already thin, and during these it seems as thought there is almost nothing that I can eat other than protein or fats, that does not make things worse. I suspect that many fans of the paleo diet have similar digestive problems. I seem to have a problem carbs in general and with dairy products. The only dairy product that I eat now days is plain organic yogurt (usually in sauces, never sweet!) and at times even this seems to lead to some rapid gas generation. All of this may be secondary to a pretty severe giardia infection that I experiences more that 2 years ago - and that was untreated for quite a while. In any case, Dr. Balzora did not seem to have any clue on how to proceed. At one point when she had ruled out Celiac based on the fact that I did not have the genetic marker for this disorder (based on personal 23andme genetic test results), she asked me what I would like her to do for me. I managed to contain my frustration, but it was hard! She decided to test for nutritional deficiencies, which ended up being negative - but was not surprising since I had recently decided that I should start taking vitamin and mineral supplements. She also decided to test for tropical sprue - which also came back negative. This prompted me to spend some time researching my symptoms - and it seems that the most likely cause is some type of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) - which is now believed to be a major cause of IBS. There are tests for this, (e.g. hydrogen breath test after lactulose) and treatments (involving antibiotics and diet). When I called to inquire about this breath testing & whether or not Dr. Balzora performs it, I was assured that a message would be left for her, but I never got any type of response. I originally chose Dr. Balzora because her bio indicated that she was an instructor at NYU - so I thought that she might be more versed on the human gut microbiome and recent research related to digestive disorders... but I was wrong. In light of the incredible amount of information that is being generated by the human microbiome project - it is time gastroenterologists to begin learning about the science behind some of the disorders that they treat - especially IBS which seems to be very common, and likely to be related to an upset balance in gut microbes.
I liked her but I thought her staff could be friendlier.
She's awesome caring and very friendly. She truly takes an interest in her patients. It's refreshing!
Friendly down to earth young female.
She seemed extremely tired and worn out. Didn't believe I had ulcers, not quite sure why I would make that up. Took a backseat to most issues I brought up which I know are not "normal". Finding a good GI doc in NY is definitely difficult. I wouldn't recommend this one.
She is, without a doubt, one of the best Doctors I have ever seen. Efficient, kind, caring. Everything you would want in a doctor.
Great doctor. Definitely recommend to anyone
Amazing! She was very nice, thorough, and answered all my questions. Additionally the staff was friendly and the office was clean and modern. I feel like I am in good hands.
Dr. Balzora was great. It was the first time I went to a GI and I was pretty nervous about getting examed. Dr. Balzora made me feel comfortable. She was warm and friendly.
Dr. Balzora was extremely friendly & very professional. She was also very knowledgeable & very informative. The office was very clean and neat and the staff was super friendly. I will definitely continue to go to this office.
Dr. Balzora was great and really easy to talk to about uncomfortable topics. She took the time to really understand you to make her decisions about course of treatment.
Best appt. ever! She is very professional and know her stuff!
Excellent experience. She was warm and friendly and explained everything thoroughly. I highly recommend her!
Finally, a doctor who actually listened to all my symptoms and is helping me! Everything about the visit was great, from the wonderful facilities, to the helpful medical assistants and of course the doctor herself. She was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. Most of all she seemed like she actually cared, which is a big change from the last GI I saw. I highly recommend Dr. Balzora!
She was very easy to talk to and I asked a lot of questions to try to understand the issue not just diagnose the medical issue.
Cant say anything wrong about either the doctor or the office. Very good experience.
This was my first meeting with Dr. Balzora. She was efficient, nice and provided lots of information. She was very helpful in trying to get me exactly what I needed done in a timely manner. I will know more when I go back for my procedure.
She is extremely professional and knowledgeable, and her staff was excellent as well.
Not very helpful.
Dr Balzora was wonderful. Attentive and caring. Took time to explain everything.
Dr. Sophie Balzora is awesome! Didn't rush at all during the visit and I felt at ease. Answered all my questions and was genuine in her responses. I would recommend her to all.
I had an excellent experience at Dr. Balzora's office. For one thing, I believe the office was renovated in September and you can tell. It looks brand new and spotless. Secondly, Dr. Balzora is NOT the type of doctor that makes you fill out your history in the waiting room and then spends 5 minutes with you. She talks through your entire medical history with you as she enters it into her computer never breaking eye contact. She is very patient and explained all of my symptoms and potential causes in great detail. The nurse was also wonderful. Added plus, the facility is affiliated with NYU and fully computerized allowing you to access your medical records, results, etc. online!
She was very sweet and young as well as highly professional! I feel I am in a good hand now with all my digestive system issues.
Sophie is really nice. She was very patient with me while I asked questions. She wasn't in a rush to get to the next person in line. A great experience. I will definitely go back.
So nice and easy to talk to. Great doctor.
Easy to talk to, professional, attentive, and helpful.
Extremely intelligent and detail orientated
She is smart, compassionate and real. After a week-long hospital stay during which I was under the care of two teaching teams of doctors numbering nearly 15, Dr. Balzora stood out as the very best combination of intelligence, integrity, and humanity. I feel privileged to be her patient. She is truly a gem.
She was very attentive and thorough! She wanted to check everything and discuss different options.
Friendly, percise and to the point. helpful and professional
She was thorough and professional. I felt very comfortable with her quality of care and bedside manner. I would recommend her in the future.
she was clear, efficeint, to the point told me exactly what she was thinking and why.
