Patient reviews for Dr. Spencer Sherman
No warning, and he diluted my eyes. No questions-puts through numerous tests. Did not allow me to reschedule for another day. All I needed was to have a tiny object stuck in my upper eyelid
Amazing human & professional , I highly recommend! I did see Dr Sherman for a consultation today : best choice ever coming from very far to see him , great advice , very good listener he pointed my eye condition and oriented me , he probably saved my eyes , all was amazing the staff as well was perfect ! Thanks a lot , merci !
He conducted extra tests and charged for "refraction fee" without the option of paying through insurance. I'm waiting to see how much more i will have to pay if my insurance doesn't accept all the tests. He did not adequately resolve my concern as well. I walked away very unhappy for my dry eye problem.
Dr Sherman was very nice and knowledgeable.
I liked Dr. Spencer's thorough approach. He did not rush through the visit and I felt very confident that I got the best check-up and treatment possible.
Great doctor. Professional. Friendly staff. Very detailed manner of analyzing my ailment.
Excellent doctor! The receptionist seemed not to be in a good mood.
Highly professional, personable and thorough!
Dr Sherman has a nice manner. Their office is also very prompt.
Dr Sherman was polite, efficient and explained everything about the examination. He had a lovely manner and I had total confidence in his diagnosis. I will definitely go back to Dr. Sherman. I feel fortunate to have found him on ZocDoc. Karla T.
He was fantastic. I came in rather afraid but he really helped ease my mind about my situation. I have never had eye or eyelid related issues before, so this was a new experience for me. He did a thorough exam of me and I felt so happy after leaving his office.
Very professional and attentive, thoroughly recommended
Very professional high quality.
Dr. Sherman was very friendly, thorough, and professional, as were the rest of the staff. I was seen right away with no wait time between tests.
Staff was very nice. Dr. Sherman and staff explained everything thoroughly.
Dr. Sherman is a gentleman and a physician; an increasingly rare find in modern medicine - I'm glad I found him.
Very quick to see me and knew exactly what he was talking about. Highly recommended!
Dr. Sherman was one of the best doctors I have experienced in a long time. This was my very first visit I went there for an eye infection. Dr. Sherman gave my a full eye exam he checked everything. I did have the payment for one of the procedure he did and he did not charge me for it. I just had to pay my co-payment of $20. Dr Sherman is an older doctor and I greatly appreciate that because he takes his time with you and explain to you anything you don't understand not like these younger doctor who rush you in and out. I highly recommend Dr. Sherman trust me you won't be disappointed.
I am used to your typical doctor's office that has your health and best interest in mind. I do not feel that this medical practice operates under that core principle at all. I have never written a review for anything before but my experience with this office has been so horrible that I feel compelled to. After a general eye appointment for contacts to give to my contact provider, they are withholding my prescription from me and will not return my calls because I won't be buying them from this office. Dr. Sherman is fine but the receptionist is so rude I've never experienced something quite like it. She is extremely condescending and has not put in 1 ounce of effort to help me every time I've called. She transfers me to a "technician's voicemail" each time I call however no one has gotten back to me. I call 3x per week and it's been over 2 months now. I feel badly for Dr. Sherman however his office staff makes it impossible to interact with this medical practice in an efficient, respectable manner and they only want you to buy from them, (their quotes are not even close to being competitive). Please don't waste your time going here!
It was such a well-oiled machine there. The process was seamless, everyone was beyond delightful, and they made talking about really serious details such a pleasure.
Dr. Sherman and his staff were very friendly and explained everything as it happened. I had no wait time, and the other staff were also helpful and explained as they conducted other tests. The exam was shorter, yet more extensive than my previous eye doctor, so I'm very glad that I discovered Dr. Sherman.
A fairly short visit. Goes through a list of diagnostics with you, almost like a robot. Very arrogant and disrespectful. Even though he was able to treat my ailment, I still felt sick leaving his office. Never pay to be disrespected, especially by someone who believes that their time is much more valuable than yours.
I mean this guy was fine. He did everything right and he was very nice. I wish that he or whoever works for him would have been more transparent with whatever the heck my insurance would or would not cover. Such that I wouldn't receive a several hundred dollar bill a month after the fact. That is a lot of money guys. You didn't think to warn me that before the fact? "Hey this one procedure might cost you WAY more than everything else because insurance probably doesn't cover it" Thanks.
He was rude during the entire appointment and not friendly at all. Walked out realizing I needed to make another appointment with another doctor as he was no help.
Staff was universally polite, pleasant, and helpful. I was seen on time and Dr. Sherman was excellent.
Office staff was super helpful and very accomodating.
Dr. Sherman is always professional, thorough and kind. His staff is also great - friendly, efficient, and willing to take the time to explain things.
One of the less impressive eye exam facilities and staff I've been to. Long wait, old methodologies, and very expensive. Way above market even for Manhattan.
I loved my visit. The only thing I left the visit a bit confused about was that even though the doc gave me an eye glass RX he told me I dont need to fill it since I already have eye glasses from before. Even after I told him that those glasses do nothing for me!
Beware of the refraction test fee(not covered by insurance) - I went there for a eye infection! but still got applied the refraction test and the associated fee. The doctor's good - but If it wasnt urgent i wouldnt have chosen this
There was a loooooong wait, and then I didn't feel the doctor took any time to explain anything or talk to me, just rushed me through without explaining tests or diagnoses or why I was being referred to a specialist. I also specifically asked not to get the refraction because I didn't need a prescription, and they tried to do it anyway.
I have never experienced worse customer service or professionalism from any doctor in my entire medical experience. Everyone in this office, in particular Mai, the contact lens "expert", and Cecelia, the office "manager", is highly incompetent, rude and just plain not helpful. I embarked on a process to be fitted for astigmatic contact lenses at the recommendation of Dr. Sherman (not at my inquiry at all). It's been nearly 6 months and I still don't have contacts that fit me properly. They are not even capable of re-ordering the last batch that did somewhat work for me. In fact, they told me they would not be able to continue this process - they basically gave up - even though I already paid for this process. So I am left with no contacts that work for me and have dealt with much psychological and emotional stress in the meantime. Please do yourself a favor and never step foot into this office. I certainly wish I hadn't.
Awful, awful experience. I went to Dr. Sherman because my regular eye doctor was not available. I had an eyelid infection and was looking to get additional medication to clear it up, because what I was on (steroids and oral antibiotic) was not helping. I went into the office and was forced to sign the "refractory fee agreement" if the doctor was to write me an eyeglasses prescription. I signed it, knowing I would not need an eyeglasses prescription because I was there for an eyelid infection, and I said to the receptionist, "I will sign this because I won't be needing this today anyway." I went to see the doctor and explained all my symptoms. Instead of examining my eyelid, he began giving me an eye exam. Then I was taken by an assistant for more tests and I told her I do not need these tests and an eye exam because I already had an eye exam this year. She said to complain to the doctor. I told the doctor I did not want to be charged for an eye exam because I already had one this year (which I told him multiple times prior), and my medical insurance only covers medical problems (i.g. eyelid infection), which was the only reason I was there. Eye exams are out-of-pocket and I can only afford one per year. He smirked and said, "Well, that's not my problem. It's not like you are out shopping on the Avenue." What does that even mean? He then wrote me a prescription for glasses which I specifically declined and charged me the refractory fee! He did eventually give me antibiotics for my eyelid, but this was all I needed - not all those other tests and prescriptions! I was charged for all the extra eye-vision tests that I told both the doctors and assistants that I did not need. This was the worst experience I ever had a doctor's office. Expensive and unnecessary on so many levels. Dr. Sherman was rude and condescending, and I would NEVER go back to him.
Every patient is different. He is worth the wait!!!
The doctor maybe very professional, but is trying to suck payment. My wife met this doctor for conjunctivitis treatment, but the doctor performed refraction test without asking her, and then billed for the test, saying the insurance company won't cover it. We asked the receptionist to file claim, who was really annoying to do so. In the end, the test was covered by insurance, but still the test fee is not reimbursed. We are really annoyed by this. I won't recommend meeting this doctor.
I feel completely taken in by this office. They did not inform me that they would not give me my contact lens prescription without an extra expensive contact lens fitting until after I had already had the visit and paid for it. Then they insisted on the most expensive contact lenses, even though I said that I wanted a different brand. I do not recommend this office to anyone.
Everyone is always pleasant, efficient, easy top be with, thorough. And I always feel as if they are taking wonderful care of my eyes..... so important.
My appointment with Dr. Sherman was fantastic. I had an emergency situation which he resolved right away and then took the time to fully evaluate the health of my eyes. The office staff is friendly and helpful. Going forward, Dr. Sherman will be my primary eye doctor.
I would recommend Dr. Sherman to anyone in a heartbeat. He was so kind and sweet and his staff was amazing! A very welcoming and friendly environment indeed!
Professional, In depth and caring….
Dr. Spencer Sherman is a true professional and I rate him as one of the tops in his field. His practice keeps up to date with new technology and after a visit you feel that every possible issue that could affect your vision has been checked thoroughly.
Very professional doctor. Thorough, patient, and even elegant. Explained observations well, followed by very detailed multiple tests. Nurses and staff were nice too. Highly recommend.
Dr. Sherman and the nurses were very kind. I had a problem with my left eye for two years now and no other doctor as been able to fix it. Dr. Sherman prescribed me treatment and within two weeks and two visits my problem was fixed.
I visited Dr. Sherman's office to do my general eye exam. I had to wait approximately 20 minutes to get called in. The exams were very throughout, they explained what I see on the pictures. Overall I was satisfied with the staff and Dr. Sherman. I can definitely recommend his office.
This doctor's team was very kind, and overall the experience was fine. Two concerns that I had were 1) the difficulty of getting a prescription for my contacts (a nurse had to chase down the doctor, so to speak, to make sure I left with an actual prescription) and 2) 1800Contacts informed me that when they contact this doctor for prescription verification, they never respond, which adds a few extra days to the processing of my contact lens orders. If you don't need lenses, this doctor is a-okay; if you do, be aware that a few extra steps will be needed to secure your lenses.
Dr. Spencer seems professional, but his receptionist is very rude. From the moment you enter the office, she acts as if the patients are an extreme inconvenience to her.
This doctor has no bedside manners whatsoever and does not know how to properly deliver and explain to the patient the issue at hand. Comes accross as arrogant, impatient and uncaring that dislikes being questioned and probed for more information on the problem. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Sherman was thorough, friendly, and clearly communicated his findings in a respectful manner, including a referral to two other specialists to rule out or confirm his possible diagnoses. Do be aware that there may be charges which insurance doesn't cover; when I brought to the attention of a staff member initiating various tests that I would not be paying for anything not covered by my insurance, she said "okay" -- but then, the front desk tried to charge me anyway. They were not successful in this endeavor.
A great experience during the entire process. Was taken in immediately and had proper tests done. He listened to me and fully explained things. Took the time to answer all my questions.
I made a same-day appointment after experiencing troubling flashes in my vision. Dr. Sherman examined me thoroughly and recommended I see a retinal specialist, which he arranged so that I could be treated right away. The office is well-appointed and all the staff were helpful and professional.
