Dr. Sue Decotiis, MD

Internist, Primary Care Doctor

Professional statement

As a Board certified Internist practicing in mid town Manhattan for over 15 years, I understand the needs of the busy professional patient. They want appointments when they actually need them. They want quality, no nonsense care delivered efficiently in a location very close to their office and appreciate using their insurance whenever possible.I believe in treating the entire patient as a whole body, not in chopped up segments, a specialist for this and a specialist for that. When necessary, I refer my patient to specialists who treat my patients as I do- ensuring continuous quality care. As skin issues are so common and often appear suddenly, dermatology care is offered in this office by a board certified Dermatologist.

her front desk staff and medical staff are lovely .i appreciate that Dr. Decotiis took much longer than most typical doctors, i told her i had concern about losing weight slowly and she took the time to explain a few thingsthat could be going on in detail, asked about my diet, etc. she's great.

The office staff are very rude. When I asked to speak to the doctor, the office manager wanted to know what I wanted to talk to her about (which goes against patients/doctor confendentuallit). Then the office manager stated that I wasnot allowed to speak to her. It was shocking that I was not allowed to talk to my doctor about my health, this is unprofessional. Also the doctor likes to sell her products such as vitamins to you.

Dr. Decotiis didn't ask me to fast before my blood test and when the results came in that my insulin was in the roof I went back for another year this time fasting. Before we even got the results she waspushing me to start on one of her special treatments to prevent diabetes. I pushed back and the results the following week showed everything was normal. I felt I was being pushed her treatments before we even had a diagnosis.

I was seen pretty quickly, but I felt like I was being rushed. It made me feel like I was wasting her time. It also took a week and a half for the office to do referral paperwork for a specialist, which is something that should take no more than five minutes. Furthermore, she messed up my referral by only allowing six sessions with this particular specialist, which is going to cause major problems with insurance and therefore ability to afford treatment for a life-long condition. Dr. Sue wasted my time and just created more problems for me to deal with. I don't recommend her.

I wish I listened to all the warning signs that were posted on Zocdoc about Dr. Decotiis. She pushed her supplements, did not listen to issues I was having, would suggest multiple things and it felt overwhelming to understand what thesolution should be and just did not make me feel comfortable. The poor reviews on this doctor are accurate and I wish I listened to them.

It's difficult to find a Doctor who genuinely cares about the well-being of their patients, and is able to do so with such efficiency and timeliness. Dr. Decotiis is a rare find and I'm so thankful for her. She takes thetime to get find the root of an issue and then offers a variety of treatment options and solutions using her impressive background of knowledge and experience. Her office staff (front desk, nurses, administrators, are welcoming, accommodating and efficient, too (not to mention the bright, clean midtown office space). I can't share enough positive feedback about Dr. Decotiis and her team!

Dr. Decotiis and her entire office just make things easy and comfortable. I am typically in and out of her office in 20-30 minutes and have no hesitation recommending my friends and colleagues to see her as a PCP. Easy tospeak to, listens to your questions and concerns, and provides genuine feedback. Thrilled that I came across her office and look forward to continuing to see her.

I went to Dr. Decotiis because I got the bug that all New Yorker's seem to have right now. I found her staff to be empathetic and helpful (I rescheduled a few times). The office location worked for me (Midtown) bymass transit. Dr Decotiis herself is VERY INTELLIGENT. She explained functional medicine to me: everyone is unique and because of this (the variants) requires specifically tailored medical treatments for them, So what works for someone e.g. Zpack - may not be the best option for you because you have XXX. VERY SCIENTIFIC! The doctor performed a thorough exam on me and after discussing various treatment modalities (I am aware that I am not the only one with this winter cold / flu) I elected IV Therapy to kick-start my well-being. IT REALLY WORKS! Within hours my symptoms significantly lessened and I had a general sense of well-being --- as if everything in my body was in balance. I'm hooked. If you really want to be treated like a unique individual and have a medical plan personalized to you based on your weight, your blood work, and your beliefs with medical science as the backing etc. - she will not disappoint. I highly recommend.

BUYER BEWARE -- Dr. Decotiis is a "supplement" pusher (her own brand, though if you buy the same vitamins outside of her office suddenly they're not "essential to your well-being) and her office sleazily tries to charge you for every littlething. I tried to ignore the warning signs because it's so close to my office, but I'm done. A physical with this practice involves a nurse coming in, runs an EKG without saying a single word (is this even necessary annually?), and then the doctor comes in and barely asks you three questions before she rushes out. I have never felt like this doctor has a real interest in my well-being and am grateful I haven't had an actual medical issue to ask about. Would not recommend to anyone who can walk to a different office.

Less than two minutes in to the conversation with the doctor, she told me I should start using Adderall. I was shocked by this and when I questioned this, she started backing off on that and made other suggestions. She didn'tseem to care about what I had to say and did not listen. She seemed in a mighty hurry and was getting annoyed by my questions. I would not recommend that anyone go to this doctor. In addition, her reception staff are not really concerned about patients. I came sharp on time for my appointment and after checking in, they didn't tell me anything until I asked what's going on 15mins in. Then they said it will be 5mins and 15 mins later the nurse took me inside. After waiting another 5-10minutes the doctor came and she barely spent 5minutes with me.

When I visited Dr. Sue the girls at the front desk were rude and I also spoke to one of the ladies on the phone a few minutes ago asking for results for a breathing test, she acted as if Ishould have known that you don't get those results back. I didn't go to medical school so I don't know. Word of advise: Don't make people feel incompetent over the phone, be understanding. I'm nervous I have trouble breathing, don't act as if I'm wasting your precious time, and just listen and if I don't understand explain it another way don't act like I am bothering you. If someone has a question about something serious like a medical condition instead of giving an attitude, maybe you should show some empathy.

Please do not visit this doctor. I put up with the push to purchase supplements for years because she was close to my office. However, this summer I was experiencing what turned out to be a medical emergency but was dismissedby her during an in office visit. This was the second office visit for this same illness. She hastily examined me while I was in a lot of pain, told me to lay down and then left the appointment. 20 minutes later the PAs come in to take blood work, I ask if she is coming back and they say they don't know. Meanwhile I can hear her in the next exam room peddling her supplements. She eventually comes back and I ask what I should do, she says just go home and rest and prescribes pain meds. Fast forward 3 weeks and I just received a call from the office that the Dr would like to discuss my blood results. This is after I ended up checking into the hospital and spending a week there with a life threatening infection that required surgery. Please do not visit if you want a Dr that recognizes serious symptoms and cares about patients. Staff is is also rude, made an excuse that the delay in blood results was due to a Verizon outage and was hung up on after I said I would not come in to discuss my bloodwork because I was now being seen by Drs through the hospital.

Dr. Decotiis is nice. Seemingly is concerned about her patients, but the staff, not so much. They are not very concerned about communicating what is going on nor are they concerned about wasting your time and will have you waiting aroundindefinitely. Oh, not to mention, they weren't the most welcoming bunch of front desk attendants. Perhaps a cup of coffee in the morning would've put a smile on their face and at least made it seem like they wanted to work.

I won't be going back. EVER. stay far far away. I have high blood pressure and am on medication. Every 3 months her office insisted I go back bc they said it needed to be monitored. Fine that makes sense. (thisis after the front desk was shouting around the office my FULL name and prescription, asking the doctor if I to come back or if they could refill over the phone. A clear failure in doctor patient confidentiality. I know this bc a friend of mine was ironically in the waiting room) After waiting about 45 min - 1hr, i finally went into a room where I waited another 15 minutes. Finally the PA came in. She asked what I was there for, I said I was due for a refill, she asked what I was taking what dosage, and said, "okay here you go" no other questions asked, never checked my blood pressure, nothing. But of course sent a bill for a full office visit.

Dr. Decotiis is an excellent physician. She was quickly able to diagnose my condition and start me on an appropriate course of action. However, her office staff/nurses leave much to be desired. The doctor ordered a number of tests, and Ihad to come back to the office to get the results. I was called and told my results were back and I scheduled a time to come. They even called to confirm my appointment the day before. I get there and the nurse informs me that they in fact did not have my results and I would have to come back. WTH? I don't live or work in the area, so that was a HUGE inconvenience. Not to mention that a month later the results are not back?? There is something inherently wrong with the organization there. If you easily get frustrated with incompetent staff please go elsewhere. Dr. Decotiis is a wonderful though, and I continue to go because of her.

Don't go to Dr. Decotiis if you are looking for a normal primary care physician. First, the office staff automatically runs a large gamut of tests on you without even consulting the physician first. For instance, for a general physical exam, they take your blood, do urinalysis, and an EKG before you even meet the doctor. This made me incredibly uncomfortable and lose trust in this office. Next, Dr. Decotiis refers to two different types of medicine- "traditional medicine" (which she doesn't focus on) and "her method" which involves probiotics/supplements she created herself. Dr. Decotiis is nice and friendly, don't get me wrong. But, I'm really just looking for a traditional doctor who practices traditional medicine, so she's not the right fit for me. Finally, the office has no organization and doesn't report test results to its patients. I had to call them to check on my blood work results, and they said they are in the mail. Well, it's a month later and I never received them. 0/10 experience.

Her nursing staff seemed highly incompetent. After administering my flu shot, the young nurse returned to her desk to do nothing but scroll through her phone. She didn't clean the bed after I got off the bed - she only replenishedthe paper covering the bed before I sat on it. She didn't take measurements, but instead asked for my height and weight. Just didn't do the standard check-up procedure I'm used to.

I went into the doctor's office with pains of a UTI - thankfully was given a same day appointment. I was given one dose of meds and sent on my way after a 2 hour wait to see her for lessthan 10 minutes. The next day, I was in excruciating pain and seeing blood in my urine. It took the Dr's office 2 days to call me back; in that time i had gone to City MD and received two different rounds of medication. When Dr. Decotiis' office called me back and I advised it had been two days since my call and I was seen by someone else, they responded with "Okay thanks, have a good day." Not even an apology! If you want to be seen in the current decade and not be ushered out of the offices, do go elsewhere.
