Dr Salama was extremely thorough and patient. He took the time to address all my concerns and had excellent bedside manner. He is honestly one of the best doctors I have encountered in a long time and I would highly recommend him to others. What I did not like was the front waiting area. The patients were very loud and one couple was loudly fighting and disciplining their children. The staff at the front desk did not do or say anything to discourage this behavior even though it was very disruptive to other patients. Also, I booked through zocdoc and immediately after booking, I got a call from the office confirming my appt and informing me that my insurance requires me to have a referral in order to see a specialist. I told them that's it's not the case and I have seen specialists many times without referrals. The person on the other side got my insurance information and said she would call me right back to let me know what my insurance said. I never heard back from her. The next day (and the day of my appt), I called and asked if they ever confirmed with my insurance. I was told no and that they would do that when I arrived. I told them I didn't want to spend over an hour coming from queens (not to mention gas and tolls) just to be told that they are not covered. The person on the other line said that she was too busy to call and I could call myself. At this point, I reminded her that I already checked with my insurance and know that I can see a specialist without a referral. It's their office who was not believing me so there was no point in me calling. Regardless, she refused to call until I came in. I then arrived and went through this whole ordeal for the third time. Each time it was a different person I spoke to and they had no idea who the previous person was and there were no notes left. Eventually, they called and confirmed with my insurance, I saw the doctor and all was well. However, the front desk staff needs major overhauling. They are not reflective of what a wonderful physician Dr Salama is. I was so annoyed at one point, I almost cancelled my appointment. I wonder how many others have done the same based on their dealings. Most times, those who answer the phones, make appts or work the front are a patients first impression. It's very important to make a positive one.
