As soon as I left my first consult interview with Dr. Goldstein, I immediately cancelled my other Pediatrician meetings that I had lined up. I was sold on Dr. Goldstein and my gut said I didn’t need to waste time looking any further. This is VERY unlike me considering I am a person who likes options and likes to take my time to weigh them carefully. Here's why Dr. Goldstein was the right choice for me & my child-to-be: Just from a direct comparison of ease in setting up an appointment with Dr. Goldstein was seamless (via Zoc Doc which sends you reminders) compared to the other offices which didn’t even ask my name when setting up the consult and seemed so disorganized over the phone. If setting up an appointment was discombobulated with the other offices, how would the rest of my experience be in handling medical records & booking follow up visits be? These are considerations I weighed heavily as my child’s first year will be filled with appointments every month. Dr. Goldstein is the only Pediatrician I noticed in Rockville Centre that actually has entered the modern age of using the internet/technology and has a Zoc Doc account (like every NYC Doctor has already done). Having moved from the City to the suburbs of RVC, I was astonished to see how many local businesses here still operate in such an old fashion way which is so inefficient. I also love that I could fill out all paperwork, medical records and insurance information online. From the moment I entered the front door I was warmly greeted by Dr. Goldstein’s attending nurse Stephanie (who also handles the books and reception area). Stephanie was warm, open and shared her personal experience straight off the bat. First thing she said was “This is the best job I’ve ever had” and she seemed genuinely happy working with Dr. Goldstein. I love that she has been an ER nurse for so many years and still volunteers as an EMT on the side to keep her skills sharp. She will be the one administering all the vaccines so it’s nice to know she has plenty of experience under her wings. She also has a very warm & motherly disposition which is important as I anticipate my child will have as much interaction with Stephanie as with the doctor. The waiting room looked clean and was reminiscent of any simple room in a Pre-School with a few scattering of toys, basic waiting chairs and soft powder blue walls. I would prefer a more up-to-date area but that’s just because I am extremely high maintenance when it comes to décor (and when I’m comparing it to the majority of Manhattan doctors’ office). Though there is not a separate wait area for sick and non-sick children, Dr. Goldstein did explain for those coming in for regular check-ups will be whisked immediately to a separate room if there is a sick child in the wait area. In terms of wait time, I barely had to wait a minute before Dr. Goldstein came out and the moment we sat down to chat, I knew this could lead to a long term family-doctor relationship. Dr. Goldstein has an extremely open and patient disposition that made me feel like I can ask him anything, even the most silliest of questions. He made me feel like every question I had was valid and deserved the utmost attention. Our meeting felt like a great conversation with an old family friend who just happened to be very passionate about going into details about medical information. Dr. Goldstein is very organize in how he answers his questions, drawing out charts and notes for me to visually see. He is extremely thorough in his answers and is very upfront with his approach. I can see from our conversation that he won’t force a parent to do something they don’t want to do but he will also educate the mother on what he believes is crucial for the child’s long term well-being. I’m the type of individual who prefers a holistic approach to my family’s everyday life (without being a “hippie”), meaning, I believe in eating organic & unprocessed food where I can without being obsessive, using medicine as a last resort and looking to make balanced decisions without going to either extremes. Dr. Goldstein’s viewpoints were completely in line with mine. I would categorize Dr. Goldstein as a “common sense” doctor. He spends time explaining his answers (not just giving a definitive yes or no), basing his answers on facts, experience, studies and so forth yet leaving the mother to make a decision that she deems best for her child. There are always pros and cons with going to a private one-doctor practice (which is what Dr. Goldstein has) compared to going to a multi-doctor facility. For me, the pros outweigh the cons. I am a small business owner myself and would prefer a more personalized experience to a larger operating doctor’s facility. Dr. Goldstein has assured me that he is constantly reachable by phone 24/7 and in cases when he is not physically available to see my child in an emergency, he has a covering Pediatrician practice he partners with who would be able to see my child. Since I have a flexible business schedule, his office hours work fine for me. I also love that Doctor Goldstein is associated with the best Hospitals in long Island from Winthrop (known for their natal-care unit) to the state of the arts LIJ & North Shore hospital. From my overall experience with Dr. Goldstein, I truly believe I’ll be in good hands. I will post another review once my child has arrive and be able to see how my child takes to the visits (which I know will be seamless). From my research in how to find the right pediatrician for me, the recurring advice I got from other mothers (and online) was to always go with your gut. Even though it is good to prepare questions and such, in the end, if you do not feel comfortable with the doctor and your experience at that facility, most likely, they are not the right doctor for you. From my total experience with Dr. Goldstein, my gut said my family will be very happy here. Hope this review helps those who are in search of a great pediatrician in the surrounding suburbs of Long Island in Nassau county near Rockville Centre.
