Anne Maiden (Young),
My six-year-old son was in the office to get an immunization and blood drawn for analysis. The immunization sent him into panic mode where he was sobbing sweating shaking and hyperventilating. He still carried on when it was time for the blood draw. The assistant tied the tourniquet on his arm. My son was so paralyzed with fear that he would not make a fist. There was almost no signs of a visible vein. The assistant though could feel one under his skin. My 6 year olds behavior made my two year old fearful and started crying himself from his brother's reaction. So you have a 6 year old and a two year old freaking out, and a vein that won't become visible for the assistant. Under all of that pressure, she kept her calm and struck the vein on the first attempt. Thank God, because I thought my son was going to pass out. She had some mad skill! Linda R.
