I originally chose Pulmonary Medicine as my sub-specialty area because its' function is so fascinating. the structure of the lung and its' mechanical function
are intimately correlated. The combination of a careful illness history, imaging of the lung with X-ray, CT-scan, and direct testing of the pulmonary function usually add up logically to a family of specific illness that can be distinguished from one another with further testing.
Though each pulmonary problem is a clinical puzzle, each puzzle is attached to an actual patient. Each patient brings with them concerns, fears, social, and work issues and countless other wrinkles that make every case unique, requiring me to bring different inter-personal skills to bear, tailored to the disease and the patient.
