I have been looking for a counselor for the past couple of months and kept getting road block after road block. I now feel like the other practices didn't work out because I was meant to work with Ms. Sebastian. I felt a connection to her style and background and am happy to have found someone to help me work through this part of my journey!
She was brusque, condescending, and rude. Her office was messy and unprofessional.
She was courteous, punctual & encouraging.
I really want to love Iona. I think she's a compelling person, and probably a compelling therapist for some, but she just wasn't for me. She operates out of her house, which is fine, but was definitely not quite what I was looking for in a therapist (this was my first time seeing someone). In addition, she could definitely be seen as off-putting and interrupting. She also displayed a weird fluctuation between being emotional and invested in what I was saying, and seeming cold and disinterested. I would advise my fellow patient to give her a try — I'm certain that Iona is a great therapist for some folks, but for me, the overall experience was too uncomfortable.
HUGE waste of time and money. What a truly awful experience. I went to her to work through some major self-esteem issues; she kept telling me I have self-esteem issues (I know, why I was there) and after CONSTANTLY interrupting me and not actually listening to me, her only "solution" was to just "love myself." I repeatedly told her I had tried several different mental methods of attempting that, and was aware that that is a common way of "fixing" my issues, but I was there because I was having trouble figuring out how to do that. She didn't really seem to care and offered NO other suggestions when I told her I felt helpless that no one could help me and that I needed more beyond simply beyond told to just think differently - no suggestions for follow-up sessions to discuss further, no other consultations, nothing. That was it. She told me I was "giving up on myself" when I expressed disappointment that I didn't feel like she gave me care I needed. I told her I had already given up on myself, otherwise I wouldn't be in therapy SEEKING HELP. Her response? "Well this is awkward, I have to charge you now." (Not kidding, those were her actual words). Do not touch this woman with a 10 foot pole, unless you want to leave feeling worse than when you arrived.
Amazing. I've been to one other therapist but she has a way of disarming you and making you feel comfortable right away. I suffer from extreme anxiety and depression. She helped me get to the root and discover where it all began, and i can not even begin to tell you the way she has helped me. I've only been seeing her for 3 months and all of my friends and family can that I seem to be a new, motivated and more self confident person. My job recently switched health care providers, so she is now "out of network" and my insurance no longer covers me. I'm sooooo upset about this :-( I would recommend her to ANYONE.
She is awesome. My daughter was suffering from depression due to family issues. Iona was able to get my daughter to express her feelings. My daughter is one who keeps to herself and does not vocalize her thoughts. Iona was able to breakthrough on the first visit. My daughter reported that she loved her session and felt that she really helped her. She will continue to see her.
