About Jeffrey Wright
-- Please note that I am an out-of-network provider. To use health insurance to pay for sessions, you must have out-of-network benefits. If you use insurance, I submit all documentation and do all billing so you won't have to send in receipts. If you are paying for sessions out of pocket instead of using health insurance, I offer a sliding-scale fee. -- I believe in the power of using language to heal. My role as your therapist is to use language to help you rebuild your relationship with yourself, so that you can live your best life. I use a psychodynamic approach, which focuses on treating the root causes of what is troubling you, rather than the symptoms that come from it. This type of work is not about telling you what to do or how to live your life, but rather about deepening our understanding of who you are and how you relate to others, so that you can become more confident, secure, and fulfilled. I have been passionate about LGBTQ mental health since 2013, when I began volunteering with the Trevor Project as a instant-message counselor for queer youth in crisis. I followed this passion to Columbia University, where I completed two masters degrees in psychological counseling and received specialized training in multicultural counseling and bilingual therapy (English/Spanish). At Columbia I also received training in substance use, family therapy, and LGBTQ issues. My work as a therapist is heavily informed by crisis work, intersectional feminism, queer theory, and person-centered therapy. In other words, I will meet you where you are and tailor my approach to your specific needs. Together, let's transform your relationship to yourself.

Patient reviews for Jeffrey Wright, LMHC
Jeffrey is exactly as he describes on his website...and warm!
Seemed more focused on the transactional nature of the arrangement (put a lot of pressure on me, almost like a used car salesman, to come up with the amount I would shell out per session.) That was his first concern. Second, he wanted me to sign a contract re: I get three absences per year before he charges you for the session anyway. Life happens - I can't guarantee I will be free. He may be very smart and caring, but he seemed to care more about money than my wellbeing. Not a good look.
Dr. Wright was patient, understanding, and provided a great initial visit. I am hopeful to continue working with him.
Jeffrey did a good job of guiding a therapy neophyte through the session.
Jeffrey is really kind and wonderful. I would highly recommend him!
Too soon to tell if we are a right fit for each other. Only 1 visit. Plan to return again.
I was a little nervous but it was nice to just ramble away and have someone listening.
