About Shannon Heers

I believe that people come to counseling in order to change something; to change themselves, their behavior, or their perceptions of situations, and most importantly, to feel better. My approach as a counselor is to find out what you want to change or how you want to feel better, and work with you as a partner in your journey to make this happen in a safe and supportive environment. I emphatically believe that you can feel better or make the change you want to in your life, and I've helped many people do this. I employ various theories of counseling including motivational interviewing, person-centered, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution-focused. My approach as a counselor is to find out what you want to change or how you want to feel better, and work with you as a partner to make that happen. I have over 20 years’ experience as a clinician in the mental health field, with a background in community mental health providing therapy, case management, emergency evaluations, clinical supervision, and assessments of adults with mental health and substance abuse needs. I have clinical experience in outpatient therapy programs, residential programs, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and in hospitals. I worked with Shannon for almost 9 years. She provided my supervision hours for my own licensure and was a mentor to me professionally. Shannon's greatest trait is that she truly respects people for who they are, and does not makejudgments about their flaws. She provides support while challenging you to be your best self. She is experienced working with almost any population, and is skilled not only as a therapist but also a supervisor. I would highly recommend Shannon to anyone seeking a highly skilled and compassionate therapist.
