I've been seeing Stephanie for over five years. Since day one, she has been the best therapist I've ever worked with. She's insightful, extremely intelligent, empathetic, and very much cares about her clients individually. She is invested in helping her clients both deal with their problems and grow as independent individuals who are capable of coping, thus able to step back and see themselves as objectively as possible. She's flexible with her schedule and works around yours. Over the five years+ that I've seen her, I've grown exponentially, and feel much more equipped to maintain a healthy perspective on my life. Stephanie is also a deeply wonderful person, and a pleasure to talk to in general.

Stephanie was warm, professional, and very helpful in just my first session with her. I felt completely comfortable discussingpersonal issues and she struck a great balance between offering an honest outside perspective on areas of stress in my life and being at the same time completely unjudgemental and a great listener. I found the session highly productive and am so glad I booked the appointment. Highly recommend her to anyone else looking for insights on areas of stress/anxiety in their lives.

About Stephanie Manes

Stephanie blends her experience as both therapist and lawyer to help individuals and couples meet the challenges of building careers, relationships and families in the performance-driven urban landscape. Stephanie draws on her training in a variety of therapeutic approaches and philosophies to create a unique dialogue with each of her clients, designed to cultivate insight and creative problem solving. She helps clients address anxiety, work and family stressors, ADHD, depression, problems getting in or staying in relationships, relationship breakdown, divorce/breakup consideration and co-parenting issues. Stephanie's first career was in international corporate law. After graduating summa cum laude from Brooklyn Law School she joined Cleary Gottlieb, working in New York and Paris. But her experience as a pro bono attorney representing victims of domestic violence inspired her to return to school to earn her master's degree in social work. Stephanie went on to complete post-graduate training in couples and family therapy at the Ackerman Institute, and has since studied a variety of modalities which she draws on in her work. More recently she was the recipient of a prestigious OnRamp Fellowship which sponsors the reintegration of women into high level legal practice. In addition to her private practice, Stephanie has been affiliated with Ackerman's Center for Families and Health and is a guest speaker on working with couples affected by ADHD, which is her subspecialty. She is an adjunct faculty member at Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology and sits on the Board of Section VIII (couples and families) of Division 39 of the APA. She has been the recipient of several grants, including the New Writers Award from the Journal of Family Process.

Stephanie is a very talented therapist and thinker. I have greatly benefitted from her insights and questions and the space to reconsider. She is able to make interesting connections and I have been surprised by how helpful it is to reworkand understand my own history and narrative. Stephanie is warm and humorous and bright. I have had other therapists, but I finally feel like I am understood, and on my way to really understanding myself and making change. It’s like I am, for the first time, opening a portal that I had a sense might be there but wasn’t sure. It’s real growth when working with her.

I feel that Ms. Manes is an excellent therapist and clinician. She manifests the perfect balance of warmth and empathy mixed with analytic depth. She does not waste time: in just a few sessions, she made connections between behaviors, notedpatterns in my narrative that were revealing, and helpful. Also, she is not doctrinaire or limited to one strict system; her approach seems based on broad clinical experience. I suppose that's another way of saying that she possesses that quality known as wisdom.
