How to adjust the age group you accept on Zocdoc

Set age preferences to block new patients outside your accepted age range from booking appointments.

Updated over 11 months ago

New patients can be blocked from booking appointments if they fall outside your accepted age range. Please review your age settings to help ensure you only receive bookings from age-appropriate patients.

Providers can select which age groups they accept, whether pediatric (under 18 years old), adults (18+), or both age groups. Mental health providers can specify more detailed age groups: children, teens, young adults, adults, and/or seniors.

If a new patient is outside your allowed age range, they will see an error message that directs them to either find another provider, or enter the information for another patient they’re booking on behalf of (e.g., their child).

How to update your age preferences

Once you’ve signed into your practice’s account, click on the Providers tab.

Then, select the provider’s profile that you want to edit.

On the provider’s profile settings page, scroll to the Patients accepted section and click Edit. Choose whether the provider accepts pediatric (under 18), adults (18+), or both age groups. Then, click Save.

For mental health providers

Click on the Providers tab and select the provider’s profile you want to edit.

Then, click on Clientele seen on the left side. From there, scroll down to review the Age ranges section. Click Edit and select the age groups the provider accepts:

  • Children (under 13 years old)

  • Teenagers (13-17 years old)

  • Young adults (18-24 years old)

  • Adults (25-64 years old)

  • Seniors (65+ years old)

Frequently Asked Questions

If I have more than one specialty, will this restriction apply across all of my specialties?

Yes. Age restrictions are applied at the provider level, so they apply regardless of which specialty a patient books under.

Which bookings will these age settings apply for?

Age-based booking restrictions apply to all new patient bookings made through Zocdoc.com, Google, and your website’s Book Online Button.

Will this restriction apply to sub-patient bookings?

Yes, your settings will apply for sub-patient bookings. For example, if a provider only accepts adults (18+), and an adult attempts to book with a sub-patient under 18 years old, they will be blocked from booking.

Can I customize the exact age range?

Not at this time. If you’d like to share feedback about the age ranges you accept, feel free to contact us.
